Recent data suggests Valve earned over $1 billion from Counter-Strike 2 in 2025. This figure is based on information gathered from the Steam Marketplace and estimates of what players spent on items within the game.
YouTuber ZestyJesus created a tool, with a collaborator, to gather and combine sales information from the Steam Community Market. He then shared this tool publicly, along with data about how often items are opened in cases.
The information includes revenue data from November 2024 to November 2025 for Valve’s CS2. This revenue is broken down into two sources: purchases from the in-game store and sales on the Steam Community Market.
How much does Valve earn from Counter-Strike 2?
So, I was looking at the numbers for CS2, and it’s insane! Players popped over 400 million weapon cases this past year. Each one costs $2.50 to open, since you gotta buy a key from Valve, which means Valve made over a billion dollars just from key sales! Apparently, skin creators do get a piece of the profits when their skins are in cases, but ZestyJesus thinks Valve keeps the biggest share – kinda like how it’s always been with their other games.
In addition to key sales, the game also generates revenue from items like Armory Passes, Major Passes, music packs, and sticker capsules sold directly to players. While exact sales figures aren’t publicly available, these items likely contribute hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue.
Another significant source of data is the Steam Community Market. According to ZestyJesus, their analysis of collected data reveals over 754 million Counter-Strike 2 item sales in the past year, with a total transaction value of approximately $1.22 billion.
Valve earns around $166 million from fees on sales, as they keep 15 percent of each transaction.
Based on current data, analysts estimate Valve earned over $1.16 billion from Counter-Strike 2 in 2025. Most of this revenue came from key sales and fees from transactions on the game’s marketplace. The person who calculated this figure believes it’s a low estimate, as some income sources are difficult to track accurately with available public information.
One reason the game’s marketplace is so well-liked is that players can trade their CS2 items on other websites and actually earn real money. However, many items now cost more than the marketplace’s $2,000 limit, making those trades difficult.
A collector recently paid over $1 million for a very rare AK-47 skin, making it the most expensive Counter-Strike 2 skin ever sold.
A significant change to how in-game items are bought and sold in October 2025 caused prices to drop sharply, though the market has bounced back somewhat since then.
