A glitch in the game Arc Raiders temporarily changed the perspective from third-person to first-person, creating a surprisingly scary experience.
Arc Raiders is a third-person shooter designed specifically for an over-the-shoulder perspective. Everything, from how the guns feel to how you move, was created with this viewpoint in mind.
The game isn’t designed to be played from a first-person perspective, like in games such as Call of Duty. However, a recently discovered hidden developer console allowed players to modify the game significantly. Some players adjusted their field of view, while others completely altered how they saw the environment – for instance, they were able to remove the fog.
However, one player discovered a special command that unlocked a first-person perspective, allowing them to experience an entire match as if they were actually in the game. The outcome was surprisingly unsettling.
First-person Arc Raiders is deeply unsettling
First, there’s the most noticeable effect: narrowing your focus increases the stress of battle. You see less of what’s happening around you, can’t easily check your surroundings, and the experience becomes much more intense and upsetting when you’re fighting.
Okay, so PvP is cool and all, but facing those ARCs up close and personal in first-person? That looks genuinely terrifying. It really makes you feel how HUGE some of those enemies are. Seriously, how am I supposed to fight The Queen when I’m basically looking through my character’s eyes? It’s a whole different level of intimidating!

Beyond the strange premise, Arc Raiders feels unfinished. It wasn’t designed for a first-person perspective, which leads to noticeable issues. Players might see their character’s arms glitch or even see inside their own body at times. Overall, the game feels quite unpolished and rough.
The player demonstrating the game admitted that Arc Raiders doesn’t necessarily need a first-person perspective. However, they noted that experiencing the game from that viewpoint was surprisingly different and interesting.
They admitted they’d be okay with the game including a first-person option, even if it put them at a slight disadvantage compared to players using the third-person view.
Honestly, I’d be so excited to see that happen! But, I think it really needs to have separate lobbies so everyone can enjoy it the way they want.
Many other commenters were very excited, describing it as “incredible.” One person even said they would stop playing in third-person if a first-person mode was included.

Currently, you can’t try out this feature that lets you experience the game from a first-person perspective, and it’s unclear if the developers plan to officially add it.
Embark Studios, the team behind Arc Raiders, quickly released a patch on January 11th to disable the game’s developer console. According to a developer, this console was intended for internal use only and wasn’t meant for players.
