Shroud says ARC Raiders devs have lost control. The studio issues a statement

Cheaters have spread in ARC Raiders, but the Embark studio plans to soon take care of them.

Despite developers’ best efforts, cheating is a common problem in multiplayer games, and ARC Raiders has been affected. This is disappointing for Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek, who was previously a strong advocate for the game and even encouraged fans to vote for it as Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2025.

ARC Raiders devs lost control

During a recent stream, the streamer discussed cheaters, but his annoyance extended beyond them. He directly stated that the game developers, Embark, don’t seem to have a handle on their own game, and he doesn’t plan to continue playing if significant improvements aren’t made in the next week or two.

When playing with Justin “Just9n” Ortiz, he claimed that around half the players in their games were cheating. While that might be an overstatement, Shroud noted that cheating is particularly common in fast-paced, player-versus-player (PvP) lobbies. He observed that at least half of the players often have new or private accounts, which can be a sign of cheating.

Even if streamers are exaggerating out of frustration, you can’t deny that regular players are also complaining about the influx of cheaters. It should come as no surprise in the context of the unwavering popularity of ARC Raiders, but it’s little consolation for those who, among other things, become victims of exploits and cheats on the Stella map.

Developers prepare a counteroffensive

Embark Studios likely responded to player complaints about cheating by promising stricter measures. They announced on Discord that they’ll be making big changes to their rules and security systems over the next few weeks to better detect and punish cheaters.

The game developer is working on improvements to their anti-cheat system and addressing security weaknesses in the game itself. These updates will likely include features to prevent players from having their streams spoiled by others. They may also be introducing tougher punishments for cheaters, as current bans are limited to 30 days due to legal concerns, and permanent bans are uncommon.

Players have observed that Embark Studios is actively hiring specialists to combat cheating, demonstrating a strong commitment to addressing the issue. While fans are optimistic, they’re eager to see concrete improvements and effective solutions.
