Battlefield 6 Remaster Maps Are Difficult For A Reason You May Not Expect, Dev Says

So, I was really excited to hear they brought back Operation Firestorm from Battlefield 3 in Battlefield 6! But apparently, getting it to look good and play well wasn’t easy for the developers. They said remastering maps, in general, is a pretty complicated process.

Design director Shashank Uchil recently told PCGamesN that developing the game was surprisingly challenging, and not for the reasons people might think.

According to Uchil, one of the biggest hurdles when rebuilding old maps is meeting player expectations. Battlefield 3 came out in 2011, and many players have strong memories and a nostalgic attachment to how it used to be.

People have a general idea of what to expect, but sometimes they remember things being better than they actually were. It’s like looking at the past through rose-colored glasses,” he explained.

Remastering Operation Firestorm for Battlefield 6 proved surprisingly difficult. Battlefield 6 features updated destruction mechanics and weaponry compared to Battlefield 3, which added significant complexity to the process.

Jeremy Chubb, the producer, explained that updating the game’s maps requires a delicate balance – they have to be careful not to change too much or too little.

Chubb explained that players have strong ideas about how the map should be, and they’re eager to see those ideas come to life. However, he believes they wouldn’t be too upset if the map didn’t change drastically, as long as the game continued to improve with new features and content.

When Battlefield 6 launches, it will feature nine multiplayer maps, including one called Operation Firestorm. Recent discoveries suggest that at least three classic maps – Propaganda (from Battlefield 4), Talah Market (from Battlefield 3), and Downtown (from Battlefield Hardline) – might also be added, but this hasn’t been officially confirmed. EA plans to release additional maps for Battlefield 6 after launch through seasonal updates.

The new Battlefield game, currently known as Battlefield 6, will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S starting October 10th. The developers are also planning to add a battle royale game mode at some point.
