Garrett Hedlund, known for his role in TRON: Legacy, is currently starring in a crime drama that’s become popular on streaming services. The film was first released in theaters and for rental in 2025.
According to FlixPatrol, the movie Barron’s Cove, featuring actors Hedlund, Hamish Linklater, and Christian Convery, is currently the fourth most popular film on Paramount+ in the United States. It’s just behind newer hits like Roofman and Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, with another title holding the top spot on the streaming list.
Evan Ari Kelman’s first feature film, Barron’s Cove, stars Garrett Hedlund as Caleb Faulkner. Caleb’s life falls apart when his son goes missing and is tragically found dead on train tracks. Unable to accept the ruling of suicide, Caleb takes matters into his own hands and kidnaps Ethan, the son of a local politician, who was also a classmate of his son. Christian Convery plays the role of Ethan.
As the movie progresses, Caleb discovers a pattern of abuse and violence, which changes how he views everything and reveals a truth far worse than he expected. The film stars Garrett Hedlund and Noah Jupe, alongside Hamish Linklater as Ethan’s father, Lyle, Stephen Lang as Caleb’s uncle Benji, and Raúl Castillo as Detective Navarro.
When Barron’s Cove was released in 2025, critics generally reacted positively, though opinions were sharply divided. Currently, the film has a 62% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with 78% of viewers enjoying it. One critic called it “actually crazy good,” but cautioned that audiences need to be able to handle the film’s difficult theme of violence involving children.
How Barron’s Cove Star Garrett Hedlund Approached the Film’s Controversial Story
The actor who starred in TRON: Legacy explained that he might not have accepted the role a decade earlier. What really connected him to the character of Caleb was reading the script when his son was two years old. It allowed him to easily imagine the desperation a parent would feel if their child was taken away so cruelly.
Hedlund believes the film will leave viewers pondering important questions, particularly about how far someone will go when they believe they’re justified. The film explores these themes through Caleb’s character, who is burdened by a troubled past. It asks what toll that guilt takes on a person, and what it ultimately requires to find peace and let go of it. These are all questions the movie aims to address.
Barron’s Cove is currently available for streaming on Paramount+.
