Dylan O’Brien’s latest dark comedy will be available to stream later this month. The film’s release was delayed due to significant leaks that caused problems at its planned 2025 festival premiere.
Hulu has announced that the film Twinless will premiere on January 16, 2026. The movie stars O’Brien, playing both Roman and Rocky, and follows two young men (O’Brien and James Sweeney, who also wrote, directed, and acted in the film) who connect in a support group after each losing their twin. As they find solace in their shared experience, their relationship becomes more complex with the arrival of Marcie (Aisling Franciosi), a coworker who pushes them to confront their hidden truths.
The film Twinless premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award. Though released in the U.S. by Lionsgate Films and Roadside Attractions in September, nine months after its debut, the film experienced significant online leaks during its festival run. These leaks revealed key scenes, including intimate moments, even before Twinless received the prestigious Audience Award.
So, things got a little messy with the film Twinless at Sundance. Apparently, someone was sharing it illegally online, and it caused a real problem. They had to pull it from their streaming platform pretty quickly. I was bummed to hear that, especially for anyone who’d already bought a ticket. But Sundance is making it right – they’re giving refunds in the form of vouchers so ticket holders can watch a different movie from the festival instead. It’s a shame, but they’re trying to protect the filmmakers and the integrity of the festival, which I can respect.
Despite leaks appearing online, the film has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. It currently holds a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 97% score based on over 130 critic reviews. Viewers also love it, giving it a 94% approval rating from more than 100 verified ratings. Critics describe the film as a surprising and emotional story, and particularly praise the lead actor’s nuanced performance.
Fans Dub Dylan O’Brien’s Twinless the “Best Film” of 2025
It’s common for critics to praise movies that audiences don’t enjoy, but that didn’t happen with Twinless. Both critics and viewers loved the film, proving its powerful impact despite its challenging and serious themes.
Viewers are calling Twinless a surprisingly moving and well-made film that skillfully blends drama and humor. One Rotten Tomatoes user praised the realistic performances, saying they made it easy to connect with the characters. Another gave the movie a perfect 5-star rating, calling it the best film of 2025 and highlighting its fantastic story and acting, as well as its ability to evoke a wide range of emotions. They described it as both complicated and heartwarming, and recommended it even to those without a twin.
Twinless arrives on Hulu on Jan. 16, 2026.
