Black Rabbit ending explained: Does Season 1 of Netflix thriller set up Season 2?

Black Rabbit is a thrilling new crime series on Netflix featuring Jude Law and Jason Bateman as brothers whose lives unravel. Here’s a breakdown of the ending and whether the story might continue in a second season.

Black Rabbit features Jude Law as Jake Friedkin, the owner of the Black Rabbit restaurant, who is working to grow his business when the show begins.

However, things take a turn when his brother, Vince (played by Jason Bateman), arrives and brings a lot of problems with him. Vince’s risky schemes and poor choices quickly put them both in a dangerous situation.

Here’s what happens in the show’s final episode, including whether the characters make it through alive. Be warned: major spoilers follow…

Black Rabbit ending explained

The series *Black Rabbit* starts and ends with a robbery at a restaurant. Throughout the show, it’s revealed that one of the robbers is actually the character Vince.

Things really hit the fan, and suddenly Vince is a fugitive, desperately trying to lay low at this dive bar called The Plank. Unfortunately, that’s where Joe Mancuso – a really dangerous local gangster, played by Troy Kotsur – tracks him down. And let me tell you, Joe isn’t happy. He’s out for revenge because Vince accidentally killed his son, and he’s planning to make Vince pay the ultimate price.

Vince gets away using a drug connection, and Jake pressures someone who can arrange a flight to help his brother leave the country.

The siblings had a deeply emotional conversation at the Black Rabbit. During this talk, Vince confessed to killing their father, and Jake surprisingly replied, “I knew it, I saw it happen.”

The scene is wonderfully acted, and it’s genuinely moving, particularly when Jake reassures him with the words, “What happened was terrible, but it doesn’t make you a bad person.”

This discovery makes it clear to Vince that Jake will always be there for him, no matter what. However, it also shows Vince he’ll never stop undermining his brother. Vince then asks Jake to hide the stolen money in the safe for his daughter, and finally calls the police to confess everything.

Vince then kills himself by jumping off the roof of the restaurant.

Will there be a Black Rabbit Season 2?

A second season of Black Rabbit is probably not going to happen. The show heavily relied on the complicated and unhealthy connection between Vince and Jake, and with one of them gone, that core dynamic is lost. The rest of the storylines do get resolved fairly well, though.

It was really sad seeing Vince’s funeral. Then, we see Jake having to downsize and move to a smaller place, and it looks like the Black Rabbit is closing its doors for good – everyone’s packing up the bar. It felt like the end of an era.

Chef Roxie, played by Amaka Okafor, has opened a new restaurant honoring Anna, a character who died earlier in the show. The series ends with Jake finding himself back where he started, working as a bartender – a scene that takes place decades in the past.
