The first season of *Outlander: Blood of My Blood* delivers everything *Outlander* fans wanted – romance, mystery, and plenty of Scottish Highlanders – and stands out in the 2025 TV lineup. An intimacy coordinator ensured the show handled its more passionate scenes with care. While the four main actors resemble Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, making them convincing as Claire and Jamie’s parents, Jamie Roy truly shines as Brian Fraser – the casting was perfect!
I was talking to the actor about the first season of his new show, and he told me a funny story about the first time someone he knew realized he strongly resembled Sam Heughan. Viewers had definitely commented on the similarity between him and the actor who plays his son in *Outlander*, but he wondered if anyone in his personal life had noticed before he was cast in *Blood of My Blood*. Here’s what he said in response:
It’s a funny story, actually. Before the show was officially cast, around Christmas 2023, we were getting ready to start filming. I was at a family Christmas party and someone – a friend of my aunt and uncle, after having a few drinks – came up to me and said I looked like the guy from *Outlander*. I’d actually been told that a couple of times before. The funny part is, they had no idea I was about to be working in Scotland, or why!
That family friend is spot on – it’s amazing how much Brian and Murtagh from *Blood of My Blood* look like Jamie and Dougal from *Outlander* once you notice the similarity! Check out the comparison.

If Jamie Roy had red hair in the photo on the left, or Sam Heughan had black hair in the photo on the right, they would look quite a bit like brothers! Honestly, while watching the first season of *Blood of My Blood*, I often had to do a double-take when seeing Brian, and I think the actors even have similar voices.
Considering Sam Heughan plays Jamie, and Jamie Roy is the character who plays Jamie’s father in the prequel, it seems like everything fell into place for Roy to get the important role in *Blood of My Blood*. He continued:
Once it was announced, people immediately noticed all the connections and talked about them. But that was the first time I’d actually heard it directly from someone – it was really unsettling.
Jamie Roy isn’t the only actor in *Blood of My Blood* who bears a striking resemblance to stars from *Outlander* – Hermione Corfield, who plays Julia, looks and sounds a lot like Caitriona Balfe’s character, Claire. Besides Roy as Brian Fraser and Corfield as Julia Moriston, Harriet Slater plays Ellen MacKenzie and Jeremy Irvine plays Henry Beauchamp in the time travel series. Both Slater, who is English, and Roy, a Scotsman, showed respect for their roles by wearing tartan and a kilt, respectively, at the *Blood of My Blood* premiere.
With a few episodes of *Outlander: Blood of My Blood*’s first season still to come, fans have good news: the show will return for a second season. You can catch the remaining episodes of Season 1 on Starz every Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern Time, and they’ll also be available to stream on the Starz app and as part of the Starz add-on for Hulu.
