Most people now expect Amazon to announce the next James Bond actor in 2026, coinciding with the 26th film in the series. Following Daniel Craig’s departure after No Time to Die in 2021, one actor has consistently been the frontrunner, and fans think he’d be fantastic in the role.
It’s been four years since Daniel Craig left the role, and everyone’s been guessing who would be the next James Bond. Now, according to Betway, the star of 28 Years Later is leading the pack! He’s currently at 2/1 odds, making him the frontrunner to wear the tuxedo and order that famous martini. It looks like Denis Villeneuve’s reboot might have found its Bond – and I’m really excited about it!
For years, Taylor-Johnson has been a top contender for the role, and recent events have fueled the rumors. He signed a sponsorship deal with Omega, the official watch partner of the franchise, back in May. While he’s addressed the speculation, he’s remained deliberately vague. However, there are still some obstacles to consider.
What’s Keeping Aaron Taylor-Johnson From the James Bond Role?

20th Century Studios
Although Aaron Taylor-Johnson is currently the frontrunner as the next James Bond, a few things could hinder his chances. He’s 35, which is older than the studio apparently wants for their new, younger 007. Plus, he’s already well-known from other big movies, and the Bond franchise often introduces a relatively new actor. However, it’s clear he definitely has the talent to pull it off.
Besides Aaron Taylor-Johnson, other actors vying for the role of James Bond include Theo James and Idris Elba, both with 5/1 odds. Aaron Pierre and Callum Turner are close behind at 6/1. Other potential candidates are Jack Lowden, Henry Cavill, James Norton, and John O’Connor.

Information about the next James Bond film, currently known as James Bond 26, is still under wraps, but Amazon is expected to make some official announcements in 2026. What’s known so far is that Denis Villeneuve, the director of Dune and Blade Runner 2049, will direct the film, based on a script by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders. Villeneuve has described the project as a great honor and something he considers very important.

I have such fond memories of seeing James Bond movies with my dad, starting with Dr. No and Sean Connery. I’m a lifelong fan, and I truly cherish the Bond legacy. I’m committed to respecting that tradition as we look toward future films. It’s a big challenge, but I’m incredibly excited and honored to be part of bringing Bond back to the big screen. David, Amy, and I are all thrilled, and we’re grateful to Amazon MGM Studios for believing in us.
