The movie White House Down will soon be removed from Netflix, leaving the streaming service early next year.
Netflix announced that the action film White House Down will be removed from its streaming service on January 1, 2026. Released in 2013, the movie follows a police officer and Afghanistan veteran, played by Channing Tatum, who brings his daughter to visit the White House, but their tour is interrupted when mercenaries attack. Jamie Foxx co-stars as the President of the United States.
Cale Tatum didn’t get his dream job with the Secret Service, but unexpectedly finds himself in that role during a White House tour. When chaos erupts and threatens the entire government, he’s given a chance to prove his worth, all while trying to rescue his daughter and the President.
When White House Down was first released, reviews were mixed. A major reason was that it shared a very similar storyline – terrorists attacking the White House – with another film released that same year. White House Down came out just three months after the Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman movie, and unfortunately, neither film was a critical success.
Critics were split on the movie White House Down, giving it a 52% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, audiences seemed to like it a bit more, with a 62% approval rating based on over 100,000 reviews.
Most critics agree that Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx have great chemistry in “White House Down,” but the movie itself has flaws. One review noted that while the actors work well together, the director, Roland Emmerich, relies too much on predictable plot points and the action sequences feel rushed and disjointed.
While White House Down grossed $205 million worldwide, exceeding the $170 million earned by Olympus Has Fallen, a closer look at the budgets reveals a different story. White House Down cost $150 million to produce, significantly more than Olympus Has Fallen‘s $70 million budget.
Tatum’s Latest Films Continue to Prove His Action Star Power
Despite the film White House Down not performing well at the box office, Channing Tatum has continued to star in several successful action movies. In 2024, he made a brief but impactful appearance as Remy LeBeau / Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, and he’s set to reprise the role next year in a film expected to be a major hit.
Channing Tatum has several exciting projects on the horizon, including the film Doomsday and the thriller Josephine, where he’ll star alongside Gemma Chan, scheduled for release in 2026. His recent film, Roofman, which is based on the true story of Jeffrey Manchester, has been well-received by critics. The movie follows a criminal on the run who hides out in a toy store after escaping from prison, and Tatum plays a man down on his luck.
