The long-awaited new Skate game is now available in early access after a 15-year hiatus. It’s already popular on Steam, but players are experiencing some technical issues, particularly with server stability. The developers, EA and Full Circle, are working to fix these problems and plan to continue improving the game throughout its year-long early access period.
Skate is a game you can download and play for free, but it’s still in early access. This means it’s not fully finished yet, and you might encounter some issues. Every game in early access is unique, so here’s what you should know about Skate.
Why early access?
So, the folks at Full Circle posted on Steam explaining why they went with early access for Skate. Basically, they want to build this game *with* us, the players! They said launching in early access isn’t the finish line, it’s the starting point. They’re planning to keep adding new stuff – features, improvements, events, and even seasonal content – over time, and they want our feedback along the way.
When is 1.0?
Full Circle hasn’t set a firm date for when Skate will officially launch. They’re currently aiming for a full release around September 2026, roughly one year from now, but acknowledge that timeline isn’t guaranteed. They stated they can’t confirm the release date with certainty at this time.
The FAQ explains that the initial early access version of Skate includes the core features planned for the complete game. Once the full version is released, players can look forward to even more challenges, new features, live events, and improvements to gameplay.
Will it get more expensive?
Skate is a free-to-play game that generates revenue through optional in-game purchases and the sale of two Founder’s Packs: a standard version for $25 and a deluxe version for $50. Unlike some games that increase in price after the initial early access period, the developers, Full Circle, have confirmed that Skate will remain free to play both during and after early access.
After over a decade since the release of Skate 3, the latest installment in the Skate series is finally here! You can play it now on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. While a Switch 2 version hasn’t been announced, a mobile version for iOS and Android devices is planned for the future.
