A TikTok user shared a surprising video after her daughter’s driverless taxi arrived with a man unexpectedly stuck in the trunk. The video quickly gained popularity online.
Self-driving taxis are gaining traction in the United States. Companies like Waymo, Amazon’s Zoox, and Tesla are testing and deploying these vehicles in several states. Waymo is currently leading the way, operating cars on both the West and East Coasts and planning to expand even further.
Driverless cars have experienced several problems. Reports show they sometimes break traffic laws, confusing police officers during traffic stops, and have even left passengers stranded in dangerous locations like busy roadways.
However, a woman recently gained attention online after discovering something unusual: a man stuck inside the trunk of her car.
Woman finds man ‘stuck’ in back of Waymo
LuckyThurman, a TikTok user, was shocked to find a man hiding in the back of the car she’d ordered for her daughter.
In a video that has been viewed over 4.5 million times, she asked, “Why are you in the trunk?”
He seemed really confused and upset. He kept saying he couldn’t get out and that ‘they’ – whoever ‘they’ are – just put him in there. It was like he was trapped and didn’t understand why. Honestly, it was heartbreaking to hear him try to explain what happened.
Trapped man spoken to by police over Waymo incident
The TikTok creator posted another video to show that the first one wasn’t a prank or staged. This new video showed police detaining and questioning the man involved.
LuckyThurman shared that the police eventually released the man involved. Waymo also gave her a credit as a result, and a replacement car was arranged for her travel.
A number of viewers questioned just how the man had managed to get in the trunk unnoticed.
People were shocked that with 29 cameras recording, no one noticed someone climb into the car’s trunk. One person was relieved the police were called, calling the situation frightening. Another commenter joked that the person who climbed in was probably just as scared as the car’s owner.
