It’s been five years since reports surfaced about Tom Cruise planning a movie filmed in space with SpaceX and NASA, but a new report indicates the project has been cancelled. Apparently, Cruise didn’t want to ask a specific person for help to make it happen.
Tom Cruise is famous for doing his own incredible stunts in action movies – he’s dangled from planes, scaled skyscrapers, and even piloted fighter jets. However, there’s one thing he hasn’t yet experienced: a trip to space.
Things were about to get interesting: a 2020 report revealed that Tom Cruise was working with SpaceX and NASA to film the first action movie in space. Doug Liman, who directed Edge of Tomorrow, was slated to direct the project.
Everything pointed to this movie being a huge hit – Tom Cruise even mentioned it while promoting the latest Mission: Impossible film. However, recent news indicates the project has been cancelled.
Tom Cruise ‘didn’t want to ask Donald Trump for favor’ for space movie

According to a source who wished to remain unnamed, Tom Cruise’s ambitious space movie project has been canceled. The film required approval from the federal government, and Cruise reportedly didn’t want to have to ask Donald Trump for permission.
According to a source, filming the movie would require approval from NASA and the federal government. Apparently, Tom Cruise was hesitant to ask Donald Trump for help with getting that permission.
Tom Cruise openly discusses his involvement with Scientology, but he generally avoids sharing his political opinions. According to a source, he’s hesitant to start now, fearing it could upset his fans, and he ‘didn’t want to ask for political reasons.’
The report was released four months after Tom Cruise declined an invitation to the 48th Kennedy Center Honors. Sources at The Washington Post said the reason was a scheduling issue.

According to Page Six, Jim Bridenstine, the NASA Administrator appointed by Donald Trump, publicly backed the film in 2020, stating that it was possible to shoot scenes on the International Space Station.
Okay, so NASA just announced they’re teaming up with Tom Cruise to film a movie… in space! Seriously, on the International Space Station! They said they’re hoping it’ll get a bunch of kids excited about science and engineering – you know, inspire the next generation to help them pull off all their crazy awesome plans. As a gamer, I’m all for anything that gets more people into STEM – space games are the best, and we need the tech to make them even more realistic!
The original post is now gone, and there hasn’t been any further activity on the account. Maybe asking Donald Trump was too bold a move for Tom Cruise, or he’s just focused on other work, like the upcoming Top Gun 3.
