Crypto Chaos: Will All L1s Collapse? Hayes Mixes Sarcasm & Predictions 🤔🔥
In a recent, dare I say, entertaining podcast, the venerable Arthur Hayes-co-founder of BitMEX-embarked on a prophetic journey that suggests most Layer 1 blockchains are doomed to meet their digital demise. Only Ethereum and Solana, those shining stars amidst the rubble, might escape the abyss.
During a spirited exchange on “Altcoin Daily,” Hayes declared with the gravitas of a fortune-teller: “I think pretty much every other L1 besides Ethereum or Solana is a zero and they’re not going to do very well.” Yes, dear reader, the man who predicted the 2018 crash is now warning us of blockchain Armageddon. Surely, the end times are near-just ask your coffee shop chatter.
What is Hayes’s reasoning? Well, as the mighty banks wade deeper into Web3 and crypto-probably to escape the horrors of their own outdated systems-he envisions them building exclusively on Ethereum, which he lauds as the quintessential infrastructure. Of course, why settle for solid ground when you can gamble on volatility? (Spoiler: he believes ETH‘s next rally is well-cooked and ready to serve.)
Arthur Hayes: Except for Ethereum and Solana, almost all other L1s will go to zero
On November 29, on Altcoin Daily, Arthur Hayes said that, aside from Ethereum and Solana, almost all other L1s will go to zero. As major banks move into crypto and Web3, he expects them to build…

Now, onto Solana: Hayes gives a hearty cheer for its meme-coin-driven vigor and its status as the second largest L1. Yet, he admits-much like a critic at a bad play-that without a fresh narrative, it might struggle to outshine Ethereum. The narrative of growth, it seems, is as elusive as a polite debate at a tavern after too many drinks.
What of XRP?
Here’s where things get spicy. The oracle of crypto predictions, Hayes, didn’t even bother to mention XRP in his latest oracular ramble. Perhaps he’s too busy favoring Ethereum, Solana, Bitcoin, Zcash, and Athena-because why not add a dash of classical mythology to modern finance?
He’s previously hinted that Zcash (ZEC)-that snooty, privacy-obsessed coin-could outgrow XRP in market cap someday. Naturally, XRP is left in the shadows, an underappreciated sibling in the digital family. And now, the question arises: Is XRP safe from the impending doom?

Interestingly, institutional adoption isn’t on pause-it’s growing like a bad weed, with tokenized assets, stablecoins, and decentralized liquidity markets driving the scene. The XRP Ledger (XRPL), that dependable old-timer, is beefing up its institutional cred, promising to be the layer 1 darling for those who prefer their finance regulated and their blockchains compliant.
Meanwhile, Ripple is teaming up with its passionate community to embed native programmability into the XRPL-because nothing screams security like adding programmable features, right? So, perhaps the XRP faithful can sit with some confidence-or at least with a sarcastic grin-knowing that even if everything else crumbles, XRP will be somewhere in the rubble, sipping its digital martini.
