Supergirl trailer reveals DCU movie will adapt most “gut wrenching” moment from the comics

The first trailer for the new Supergirl movie from the DC Universe is out! It features Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El and includes a particularly emotional scene inspired by the ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ comic book storyline.

I was seriously blown away by David Corenswet as Superman in the new movie! It felt like a fresh start for the DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran, and it’s awesome that it was a hit with both critics and audiences.

With that behind us, everyone is now looking forward to future DC projects. Before we see James Watkins’ mature-themed Clayface film and the sequel to Man of Steel, titled Man of Tomorrow, the Supergirl movie will be released.

After making a funny and memorable appearance in the movie Superman, Alcock will star in the next DC Universe film, adapted from the comic book series Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

I just watched the first teaser for the Supergirl show, and there’s this one scene that’s really stuck with me. It looks like a funeral happening in Argo City. Everyone’s dressed in white, and they’re carrying a coffin. It seems like Kara is walking beside her dad during the procession, which is super emotional!

Someone on Reddit noticed a figure in white—likely Krypton—at what appears to be a funeral. Another user responded that it’s Argo City, referencing the similar outfits worn by characters resembling Jor-El and Lara, and calling that part of the story emotionally powerful.

Someone else pointed out that, if they recall correctly, Argo City was being destroyed by Kryptonite radiation in the story ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ – the reason Kara’s parents sent her to Earth. They suggested the current situation might be similar, which would explain the funeral.

Someone pointed out that David Krumholtz is visible next to her in a wider view of the scene, and he’s playing Kara’s father. Although this is a significant and emotional part of the original comic books, fans are excited to see if it will be included in the movie.

Honestly, I’m really hoping they show the scene where Supergirl witnesses Krypton being destroyed. That moment is huge in the comics – it’s the part that really gets to you. It totally hit me because I’d never thought about what that day must have been like for her. She didn’t just lose a planet, she lost everyone she knew and loved, and that’s something she actually remembers. It would be a seriously powerful moment.

The new Supergirl story will be darker and more intense than previous versions. It follows Kara Zor-El’s journey across the galaxy with her dog, Krypto, where she encounters a young woman named Ruthye Marye Knoll and embarks on a dangerous mission driven by revenge.

James Gunn has described the new Supergirl as significantly darker and more troubled than previous portrayals. He told DC that this version of the character will be far more complex and damaged than audiences have seen before.

Superman was sent to Earth as a baby and grew up with wonderful parents. Supergirl, however, was raised on a piece of her home planet, Krypton. She witnessed the deaths of everyone around her, which made her much more cynical and hardened.

Jason Momoa, along with Alcock, is perfectly cast as Lobo. Matthias Schoenaerts will play Krem of the Yellow Hills, the villain responsible for the death of Rutheye’s father.

Eve Ridley will star as Rutheye, and Emily Beecham and David Krumholtz will play Supergirl’s parents.
