YouTuber Ember Paradox criticized YouTube after its AI moderation system removed a reaction video for supposedly violating child safety rules, even though the original video it reacted to remained online.
The YouTuber announced on December 10th that their reaction video to Brandon Herrera’s ‘Darwin Awards’ content had been taken down by the platform for violating its rules regarding child safety.
I’m confused why a video I reacted to is still available on YouTube, especially since it doesn’t violate any rules. Meanwhile, my own video was taken down, even after I removed some content before uploading it, and I received a penalty for it. Can someone explain this?

Herrera stated that his initial video didn’t violate YouTube’s guidelines.
He assured me the video didn’t contain anything that would cause it to be taken down, stating he wouldn’t have uploaded it if it did. However, he also explained that videos in that particular series are almost always flagged by YouTube, resulting in either limited or no advertising revenue or age restrictions.
YouTube responds, denies appeal
Almost immediately after Paradox’s tweet became popular, the official Team YouTube account replied, requesting she hold off until her appeal could be considered.
After their initial request was turned down, the company responded by saying they were investigating the issue and would provide an update as soon as they had more information. They also thanked the requester for their patience.
They’re not the first creator to hit out at YouTube’s alleged AI moderation errors, either.
Popular tech YouTuber Enderman noticed a wave of channel removals, with several accounts boasting hundreds of thousands of subscribers disappearing suddenly. Meanwhile, another creator received a ban due to a comment they posted when they were only 13 years old.
I was so shocked to hear that YouTube restricted SpooknJukes’ latest Dead by Daylight video! Apparently, they flagged a clip of him just laughing as “graphic content.” It’s crazy to me that they’d do that – it was just a normal reaction to the game, not anything actually graphic!
