After reading Sunrise on the Reaping, I kept hoping the upcoming movie adaptation would bring back Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson as Katniss and Peeta. I assumed Lionsgate would keep that a surprise until the movie came out, but a new report confirms it’s happening! The stars of the original Hunger Games will return for the new film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two actors are returning for the next Hunger Games movie after leaving the series ten years ago with Mockingjay Part 2. As a big fan, I’m thrilled, but it also makes me wonder about a couple of things.
There’s speculation about whether Woody Harrelson will reprise his role as Haymitch in the new Hunger Games films, especially since Sunrise on the Reaping focuses on his character. It’s surprising to hear about Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth returning before any news about Harrelson.
Will Katniss and Peeta have a more significant presence in the movie than they did in the book? The latest prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, only features them briefly in an epilogue set in the present day. With the movie already including these characters, it makes me wonder if they’ll expand their roles to honor their story, or if their appearance will be a simple cameo, much like in the book.
