Fans of Stand By Me—both those who attended the event and those who didn’t—were thrilled to see Rob Reiner dressed as Vern, 40 years after the movie came out. The photo’s comments section is overflowing with enthusiastic reactions, such as…

The film Stand by Me follows four boys as they venture just beyond their town in search of a dead body. Making the movie was a deeply emotional experience for those involved, though actor Wil Wheaton later revealed he endured emotional abuse during filming. Despite this, the production also led to lasting friendships – Wheaton and Jerry O’Connell remain close to this day.
The 1986 film is widely considered a top-notch adaptation of Stephen King’s work, and director Rob Reiner personally ranks it as his favorite. Unlike many Stephen King stories, it doesn’t involve any supernatural elements; it’s simply a heartwarming tale about the bond between four friends.
It was so cool seeing Jerry O’Connell dressed like that – it instantly took me back! He even brought a comb and cherry Pez, which was a fantastic detail. If you haven’t seen Stand by Me, you might not get the references, but for those of us who have, it was a perfect nod to the movie and really made my day.
It’s wonderful to see three of the stars from Stand By Me reunited after so many years. It’s also a little sad, though, because River Phoenix, who was part of the group, is no longer with us – he passed away in 1993. Still, it’s heartwarming to see O’Connell and the other actors continuing to honor the film and River’s memory.
You can see the live tour of Stand by Me on the East and West Coasts in March 2026, and tickets are currently available for most shows. If you want to watch the movie right away, it’s also available for streaming on Netflix.
