Thanks to reporting by Stephen Totilo at Game File, it’s now confirmed that Disney and Lucasfilm Games are working on a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. Totilo clarified on BlueSky that this isn’t just an updated version of the game, but a complete remake that will include content originally cut from the game by Obsidian. Back in 2022, Aspyr Media attempted a Switch port of KOTOR 2 and planned to add this lost content, but couldn’t deliver, leading to lawsuits alleging false advertising. This remake could finally bring that content to players on consoles, but considering the past issues, it’s wise to remain cautiously optimistic.

The recently published Game File report is a detailed and interesting look at the history of the game. It covers Aspyr’s work with Disney and Lucasfilm Games over several years, as well as the efforts of the modders who first recovered lost game content back in 2009. Fans have been promised this content before, so they may be skeptical about any new announcements. A major issue in recent years has been giving proper credit to the original modders and making sure any content from the game’s original developer, Obsidian Entertainment, isn’t used in a way that could cause legal problems for Disney or Lucasfilm Games.
Thankfully, this isn’t just a simple re-release of the original game. Recently revealed documents show that Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly described the project, codenamed “Juliet,” as a complete remake of KOTOR 2. The plan was to update the game with modern graphics and gameplay for current hardware while preserving the story and characters. This remake is being discussed with Aspyr and is a separate project from the KOTOR 1 remake, which Saber-owned studio Mad Head Games is still reportedly developing.
While an upgrade to a complete remake seems likely, Totilo notes he can’t confirm if a remake is actually happening. Reilly made these comments back in March 2025, so things may have changed since then. However, with Star Wars announcements expected soon, we might see something revealed at this week’s Game Awards.
