Destiny Rising fishing guide

While it may not seem essential in a fast-paced game like Destiny Rising, fishing is actually quite rewarding. You can earn great items and even feed a cat, making it a worthwhile activity.

Destiny Rising offers a ton of activities – battling enemies, exploring the world, tackling dungeons, and playing fun minigames – all with the chance to earn unique rewards. Fishing is another great way to get free items and even weapons, or just relax and enjoy the game.

Okay, so just running up to any water and mashing the button won’t get you much in Destiny 2: Rising. You actually need to learn how to *start* fishing, how the fishing minigame works, and what the heck you even *do* with the fish once you reel ’em in. This is everything I’ve figured out about fishing in the new expansion!

How to unlock the fishing minigame

You’ll be able to start fishing in Destiny 2: The Final Shape after completing Chapter 2-3 of the main story. This part of the game is set in the Haven Bazaar on Pandora-7.

Completing this task will start the “Go Fishing” sidequest, letting you learn how to fish. It also includes a helpful tutorial that shows you everything you need to know about fishing and what it’s used for.

How to fish

Okay, so if you’re anything like me, you probably rush through everything in a game and then immediately forget how to do stuff. That’s how I felt when I started fishing! Basically, you need to find the spots where you can actually fish – they’re all over the map (thankfully, a list is right here!). Once you’re at a spot, just tap the little pop-up that shows up on screen and you’re good to go.

Next, you’ll see a fishing menu with items that change the kinds of fish you’re able to catch.

  • Rod: Makes it easier to catch fish.
  • Bait: Alters the rarity of the fish you catch.
  • Meal: Enhances the fish quantity and rarity for 20 minutes.

Now you’re ready to start fishing! Press the fire button to cast your line. Watch for the fishing line button – when its icon changes, you’ve hooked a fish! Tap the button to reel it in.

The more unusual the fish, the more challenging the minigame will be. To catch it, simply tap the screen repeatedly to keep the blue circle over the fish icon. A yellow circle shows how much energy the fish has; if it fills up, the fish will get away. Keep the blue circle on the fish to lower its energy and reel it in.

How to get more Rods, Bait & Meals

As previously noted, while Rods, Bait, and Meals are incredibly helpful for fishing in Destiny Rising, they can be difficult to obtain.

To get better fishing rods, you need to improve your fishing rank. Raising your rank unlocks new tiers of items at the fishing shop in Haven Bazaar, letting you buy more powerful rods. We highly recommend focusing on this, as it will significantly simplify the fishing process.

You can find bait at the Fishing Supply shop, and it’s purchased using Angler Tokens – which you earn by selling the fish you catch. You can also unlock special bait as you improve your fishing skill and complete related challenges.

You unlock meals at fishing level 6. Once available, it’s a great idea to buy both high-quality bait and meals to improve your fishing experience.
