How to Revert Half Health Effect in Elden Ring Nightreign

The Nightreign DLC for Elden Ring, titled Forsaken Hollow, adds a lot to the game. You’ll face new enemies, discover more areas, and choose from two new starting classes. Plus, there’s a brand new map to uncover with a secret waiting to be found.

You might have found yourself in the Great Hollow with your health suddenly reduced. Panicked, you rushed to a Site of Grace, where it was thankfully restored. But what caused this strange affliction?

Here’s a guide to understanding and removing the Crystal Curse in Elden Ring: Nightreign.

What is the Crystal Curse?

The Crystal Curse is a strange effect that happens in certain areas during the Great Hollow Shifting Earth event. If you go into either of the big fortresses in the northwest or southeast, you’ll be affected by it.

When afflicted by the Crystal Curse, your maximum health is reduced by half. It’s similar to becoming Hollow in Dark Souls games. This reduction lasts until you rest at a Site of Grace or your character is defeated.

If you find a Site of Grace or are defeated, the Crystal Curse will lift and your health will be restored. But when you re-enter the area, the curse will return.

How to Break the Crystal Curse

Throughout the Great Hollow Shifting Earth area, you’ll discover several glowing crystals. These crystals all share the same colors as the large purple crystal located in the map’s center.

When you approach one of these crystals, you’ll see a message asking you to ‘resonate’ with it. To break the crystal, simply interact with it by choosing the ‘resonate’ option.

Whenever one of these crystals is destroyed, you’ll receive a message saying the main crystal has cracked. If you destroy four of these crystals, the large crystal in the middle of the map will shatter.

You won’t see the smaller crystals marked on your map right away. You’ll have to find them yourself at first. Once you’ve beaten the first Night Boss, the map will then show their locations.

Okay, so when I’m looking at my map, I can easily tell which crystals I’ve already hit. The ones I’ve resonated with show up as grey, which is super helpful. Any crystals still showing as purple? That means I haven’t resonated with them yet and they’re still up for grabs!

During each game, you’ll find about six crystals scattered around the map. You only need to activate four of them to break the large crystal in the middle.

After you break the large crystal, you’ll receive a notification and see its appearance change on the map. Then, you and your team can head to the center of the map to locate a glowing aura around the crystal.

Engage with this aura just like you do with other Shifting Earth events to gain the Great Hollow’s Favor. This Favor will lift the Crystal Curse and also strengthen your defenses when you’ve used all of your Sacred Flasks.

Once you’ve earned the Great Hollow’s Favor, you can enter the large fortresses on the map without suffering the curse or losing health.
