Disney is looking for a new team member to help develop an exciting Star Wars game. They hope this game will be a major step forward for Disney, setting a new standard for their digital entertainment and introducing it to a global audience.
The Associate Art Director position involves working on a new, challenging, and innovative project.
The job description highlights an opportunity to work alongside highly skilled professionals. It’s ideal for an experienced leader with a strong vision who wants to build something extraordinary – collaborating with a talented team to develop a uniquely Disney product.
We’re looking for someone who can motivate and guide our development teams to create amazing, high-quality Star Wars experiences that truly capture the spirit of the franchise.
This role will guide the visual style, protect our creative assets, and encourage teamwork between our internal staff and external partners.
This role involves reviewing artwork and visual designs to make sure everything aligns with our brand and quality guidelines. The ideal candidate will also provide constructive feedback and possess a strong knowledge of the Star Wars universe.
Naturally, this person will also collaborate with the teams at Lucasfilm.
We’re looking for an experienced candidate with at least seven years working in the gaming, film, or television industries. They should be a huge Star Wars fan with a thorough knowledge of the franchise, and have significant experience developing successful, high-quality AAA games for both consoles and mobile devices.
Additionally, the successful candidate will need to travel internationally to collaborate with partners around the globe.
The job description outlines the responsibilities and qualifications for the role, but it doesn’t explain what the game itself is about. Based on the ad, it seems the game will be made by an outside studio, which is typical for Disney – they usually partner with other companies for game development rather than creating games in-house.
Although details are still under wraps for one particular Star Wars game, we already know several are in the works. These include Star Wars Eclipse, a remake of Knights of the Old Republic, a new title from Amy Hennig, Star Wars: Zero Company, and another Star Wars Jedi game from Respawn Entertainment. Recent buzz suggests Creative Assembly is developing a Star Wars: Total War game, potentially to be unveiled at The Game Awards.
Josh D’Amaro, who is likely to be Disney’s next CEO, is passionate about video games. He led the $1.5 billion investment in Epic Games for the new Disney x Fortnite collaboration and plans to further expand Disney’s involvement in gaming.
Disney used to be more involved in making video games directly, with its own studio called Disney Interactive Studios. They also created the popular ‘Disney Infinity’ game, where you could use physical toys in the game, but that’s now discontinued. Now, Disney mostly lets other companies make games using Disney characters and stories. Back in 2019, Disney CEO Bob Iger openly admitted that Disney hadn’t been very successful at making and publishing games on its own.
