Since *Hamilton* started streaming on Disney+, my family has watched it often – it’s perfect background entertainment while doing chores or when we can’t decide on something else to watch. So, when tickets became available for the filmed version of the Broadway show celebrating its 10th anniversary, we immediately bought them. I was surprised to discover something new while watching it, though!
Seeing Hamilton On The Big Screen Made Me Experience It Differently
I’ve watched *Hamilton* on Disney+ countless times, and I even saw the touring show a few years ago – it felt like experiencing the story anew. However, I didn’t expect the movie version to be particularly impactful, as I’m so used to the original cast recording, even on a larger screen.
My daughter and I planned a fun evening listening to our favorite songs from *Hamilton*, eating popcorn, and singing along. We did all of that, but I also picked up on some details I hadn’t noticed before. To my surprise, my teenager whispered that she’d just realized the dance moves during the quiet part of “The World Was Wide Enough” were actually inspired by moves from songs like “My Shot”!
Many *Hamilton* fans probably already know this, but I was surprised to find that watching it on the big screen gave me a fresh perspective – and my daughter felt the same way. It made me wonder why?
I think I lose focus about halfway through when watching a movie at home. But in the theater, with nothing else to distract me, I noticed a small detail that completely reignited my enjoyment of the story.

I Went Down A Rabbit Hole Following My Hamilton Experience
Similar to how I felt after first watching *Hamilton* on Disney+, seeing the show in a theater made me want to delve deeper into its creation. I was particularly curious about something we’d observed regarding the song “The World Was Wide Enough,” so I started listening to *The Hamilcast* podcast, beginning with the first of three episodes featuring the show’s choreographer, Andy Blankenbuehler.
It was like magic! Within the first 15 minutes of the podcast, they answered my question completely. The choreographer revealed that the dance sequence wasn’t just inspired by “My Shot,” but also incorporated moves from “Right Hand Man” and “Helpless” – reflecting key moments from Alexander Hamilton’s life.
I’m completely hooked! Even after watching *Hamilton* countless times, I’m still discovering new details I never noticed before.
My daughter and I enjoyed seeing the movie in theaters, but I hope those who’ve watched it repeatedly over the last five years have also discovered something fresh each time. It’s a film that really makes you think, and I can’t imagine only watching it once.
You can watch *Hamilton* on Disney+, and some local theaters are showing it for its 10th anniversary – check listings near you to see if it’s playing!
