Team Cherry has revealed they’re working on new content for Silksong, suggesting significant additions are planned, though they haven’t given any details about when it will be released.
Hollow Knight Silksong quickly became a massive hit, exceeding the expectations of most independent games. It sold millions of copies in just a few days and quickly gained over five million players. Critics loved it, giving it scores in the low 90s on Metacritic, and players agreed, reflected in high user scores. The game also became incredibly popular on Steam, peaking with over half a million players online at the same time.
That momentum set the stage for the next big question: what comes after a debut this strong?
Team Cherry confirms new Silksong content is in development
In a recent interview with Bloomberg, Team Cherry developers Ari Gibson and William Pellen revealed they are currently working on new content for the highly anticipated game, Silksong.
They didn’t share a release schedule, but Gibson explained they’re exploring new content and ways to grow the game world. The team is focusing on what they find most interesting, and future updates could range from small improvements to large expansions similar in size to the Godmaster content.

As a huge fan, it was good to finally hear an update on Silksong! They admitted the development has taken a really long time – way longer than they initially expected, like seven years wasn’t the plan at all. But they’re still committed to making the game in a way that feels natural and takes the time it needs. They’ve started really making things now, working on different parts of the game, and they promised they’ll be sharing updates with us much more often because they actually have stuff to show! They even mentioned Sharpe, the Steel Assassin, and said they’re excited to bring her back, along with some other ideas they’d either cut or changed during development. It’s encouraging to hear they’re still passionate about bringing those concepts to life!
The interview also discussed Team Cherry’s plans after Silksong. According to Gibson, they’re interested in creating games set in completely new worlds, featuring large environments, unusual characters, and epic boss battles. While they still love the Hollow Knight universe, they want to experiment with different game types and stories before revisiting it in the future.
