Sources say Bungie is starting work on both Destiny 3 and a way to play a more traditional version of Destiny 2.
A user named Starsiza claimed that a sequel to the second game was being developed, and that plans were also underway for a game similar to the original ‘Classic D2’.
Although initially limited, the information was confirmed by Colony Deaks, a well-known and reliable source for leaks about games like Destiny 2 and the upcoming Bungie shooter, Marathon. Deaks has a proven track record of accurate predictions.
Leaker plans to “share more info” soon
Deaks confirmed that Destiny 3 is in the very beginning stages of development. They mentioned this in a post on X, and noted that some people may have already seen a related tweet earlier that day.
We’ve held onto this information for a few weeks because it’s still very early in development, but we plan to share more details in the next few months.
Okay, so the big news is Destiny 3 is actually in the works! You might have seen a quick mention of it on Twitter earlier today. We’ve known about it for a little while now, but honestly, it’s so early in development we wanted to wait until we had more to share. It’s just frustrating to…

Although Deaks confirmed reports that Destiny 3 was being made, they didn’t say anything about the ‘Classic Destiny 2’ version another leaker had talked about. When someone asked Deaks about the possibility of a classic version of the second game, they responded with:
We’re discussing the best time to release all the information we’ve gathered, as there’s a lot of it and we want to ensure everything is accurate and ready.
According to Deaks, Bungie is aiming to release the potential third game in about five years, with development really getting underway once they’ve finished with Destiny 2.
Destiny 2 will continue to receive new content for at least another year after the release of its final expansion for 2025, Renegades, which comes out on December 2nd. This expansion features a variety of new weapons and gear inspired by Star Wars.
If the recent rumors about Destiny 3 being in development are accurate, it would represent a significant shift in Bungie’s plans. Earlier this year, after the release of The Final Shape, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported, based on his sources, that Destiny 3 had never actually been considered for development.
Bungie hasn’t said ‘no’ to a Destiny 3, but they also haven’t announced that one is in development. They’ve remained neutral on the topic.
The studio’s upcoming game, which was previously planned to come out in 2025, is now expected to be released in 2026 due to a delay.
