Netflix Debuts Claire Danes’ Homeland After Her Recent Hit

Now is a fantastic time to be a fan of Claire Danes! The Emmy-winning actress is currently starring in—and receiving praise for—two successful shows.

Her new series, The Beast in Me, has received great reviews and is a global hit. Now, her most famous show is also available on Netflix worldwide, marking its first-ever global streaming release, according to Netflix’s Tudum blog.

The hit Showtime series Homeland, based on the Israeli show Prisoners of War, first aired in 2011 and ran for eight seasons, concluding in 2020. The show was critically acclaimed, winning eight Emmy Awards. Claire Danes, who played Carrie Mathison, won two Emmys for the role in 2012 and 2013, and received five additional nominations for the same character.

As a critic, I have to say the team behind the TV adaptation was top-notch. Howard Gordon, known for shows like 24 and The X-Files, and Alex Gansa, who’s worked on Accused and Dawson’s Creek, really brought something special to the screen. And the cast? Stellar. Claire Danes led the way, alongside Damian Lewis, Morena Baccarin, Rupert Friend, and the always-fantastic Mandy Patinkin. But they weren’t alone – the show also featured some seriously talented faces, including a young Timothée Chalamet, Zuleikha Robinson, F. Murray Abraham, Tracy Letts, Raza Jaffrey, Suraj Sharma, Corey Stoll, Miranda Otto, Elizabeth Marvel, James D’Arcy, Morgan Spector, and Hugh Dancy. It was a truly impressive ensemble.

Homeland centers around Carrie Mathison, a brilliant but unpredictable CIA agent. After a mistake during a mission in Iraq, she’s reassigned to a desk job in Washington, D.C. When a U.S. prisoner of war returns home after eight years, hailed as a hero, Carrie becomes convinced he’s secretly planning terrorist attacks with the people who held him captive.

For the first time, the series Homeland is now available on Netflix in many countries around the world, including the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Australia. Previously, it was only available on Netflix in the UK. The show began streaming on November 20th.

Claire Danes Is a Major Draw on Netflix

Though Claire Danes became widely known for her role in Homeland – and even became a popular meme for her emotional scenes – she’s had a successful career with many projects. Her latest is The Beast in Me, a new limited series on Netflix, which also brought her back together with Howard Gordon, the creator of Homeland.

I’m totally hooked on this new show – and it seems like everyone else is too! It stars Matthew Rhys, and it’s already a massive streaming hit. Seriously, it jumped right to number one in its first week, beating out even The Witcher Season 4. Tudum reported that it racked up 6.9 million views and a whopping 45.4 million hours watched – that’s incredible!

The show was well-received by reviewers, drawing comparisons to Homeland. Homeland boasts an impressive 85% average rating from both critics and viewers over its eight seasons. This new show earned an 83% rating from critics and a 73% rating from audiences.

Homeland and The Beast in Me are streaming on Netflix.
