A father in Sweden broke a Guinness World Record by stuffing an incredible 81 matchsticks up his nose – all to try and amaze his children.
Martin Stroby, age 42, decided to attempt a world record after his children excitedly suggested it would be “so cool” to see him featured in the Guinness Book of World Records – they were looking through it at home when the idea came up.
In August, Stroby broke the world record for most nose matches played, achieving a total of 81. The previous record stood at 68. He was inspired to try the challenge by his children’s enthusiasm and chose it because he believed it was achievable.
Dad shatters previous record of 68 matches
He started by testing one nostril and successfully fit 35 matches inside, giving him confidence he could break the world record. Stroby explained that even though it was uncomfortable, he discovered he could stretch his nostrils and manage the feeling well enough to try for the record.
In early practice, he kept dropping matches, so he tried various methods until he found one that greatly reduced the number falling. Finally, he performed the trick outdoors, attracting a small audience and successfully completing it.

Stroby explained he was driven by a desire to make his children proud. He wanted to be a role model for them, just like his own father is for him, and hoped this unique achievement would create a lasting memory they could cherish.
His children now think he’s really cool, though they were puzzled by how he managed to fit so many matches up his nose! Strpby isn’t planning another record attempt right now, but he suspects his kids will convince him to try again.
Last September, a Vietnamese artist became famous online for breaking the world record for the longest fingernails – they were longer than a giraffe’s neck!
