Fans are thrilled to hear that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are set to reprise their roles in a new Mummy movie. A fourth film in the series has been highly requested for years. Previous attempts to reboot the franchise, like the 2017 Mummy starring Tom Cruise, didn’t succeed. Now, Fraser has offered a brief glimpse of what audiences can expect from the upcoming installment.
Brendan Fraser recently spoke with AP News about his career resurgence and past challenges in Hollywood while promoting his new movie, Rental Family. He discussed the possibility of a fourth Mummy film – a project 17 years in the making. Fraser, who won an Oscar, explained that this upcoming film is the Mummy movie he’d always envisioned. He described his experience making the third film and how it sparked a desire to continue the story – a desire that’s now being fulfilled.
The project I originally envisioned never came to fruition. The third film was essentially a combination of two ideas – it was tricky explaining that to the Associated Press reporter! NBC had the Olympic broadcast rights that year, and that led us to China. Working in Shanghai was an amazing experience. I’m really proud of that third film; I think it works well as a complete story. We moved on, assembled a new team, and did our best. But the original project I had in mind is finally happening. I’ve been waiting twenty years for this opportunity. There were hints and whispers along the way, but now it’s time to deliver what the fans have been asking for.
Brendan Fraser’s ‘The Mummy 4’ Is the Story He Always Wanted to Tell

Universal Pictures
The 1999 film The Mummy was a box office hit, receiving generally positive, though mixed, reviews when it first came out. Over time, it’s become a beloved cult classic, gaining a dedicated fanbase and even inspiring conventions dedicated to the entire movie trilogy. The sequels, The Mummy Returns and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, weren’t as well-received by critics, but that hasn’t diminished the series’ popularity or appreciation for Brendan Fraser’s performance as adventurer Rick O’Connell.
As a big fan, I’m really excited about this new project, especially with Fraser and Weisz both involved! It’s a great opportunity to introduce those who haven’t seen the original 1999 film to the series, and maybe even bring back some old fans. I’m hoping this new movie captures the same magic as the first – that perfect blend of scary horror and thrilling adventure. And honestly, it would be amazing to see Fraser get a satisfying conclusion to a character he’s so well-known for.
