CS2 pro opens up after photo of day job goes viral despite being top player

Tilde Byström, a Counter-Strike 2 player and commentator known as ‘7liciousCSGO’, is gaining attention online after sharing a picture of herself at work making sandwiches.

On November 19th, Byström shared a photo on X, jokingly announcing, “After a decade in esports, I’m now officially a sandwich maker.”

She playfully gave a thumbs-up to the camera, revealing her workspace covered in sandwiches neatly wrapped in brown paper bags.

The post playfully highlighted a reality in esports: even with strong knowledge of Counter-Strike 2 and a background as a pro player and commentator, making a living isn’t always easy, and many still need a traditional full-time job to cover expenses.

After 10 years in esports, I’m officially a sandwich maker 👍

Byström’s tweet quickly went viral, receiving over 300,000 likes and 18 million views in less than a day. It even got a response from Pizza Hut, who playfully commented on the pizza-making skills shown in the tweet.

“YO!” she replied. “I know how to make a pizza.”

YOOOOOOOOOO.. I know how to make pizza.. 👀

7licious explains the real meaning behind her viral sandwich-making photo

We spoke with Byström on November 20th about her popular post. She explained it was both a lighthearted response to negative comments she’s received from male players and a playful observation about the current challenges facing professional women in CS2.

ESL Impact, a major competitive circuit for female Counter-Strike 2 players, ended after its eighth season in October. Organizers stated the league was no longer financially viable to continue operating.

In recent years, several prominent Counter-Strike teams have shut down their women’s teams. For example, NAVI stated that maintaining a women’s CS2 team wasn’t financially viable and made it difficult to plan for the future.

She explained the post was intended as a joke, referencing the common, and often frustrating, phrase gamers hear – ‘Go back to the kitchen and make me a sandwich.’ She’d encountered it countless times.

I actually start my days making sandwiches, usually from 5 to 10 AM. It began as a bit of a joke, but it’s also necessary. To make ends meet – cover rent, keep playing CS2, and navigate the current competitive scene as a woman – I need a regular job, and I’ve pretty much always had to juggle work with pursuing my gaming goals.

Byström has previously competed for well-known esports teams like Evil Geniuses Gold and Ghost Gaming, but so far, none have been able to provide her with a sustainable, full-time income.

Byström hopes that women’s Counter-Strike will grow to the point where both men and women can compete together in the same leagues.

I’ve been a full-time player with Evil Geniuses, but before that, I played for other organizations while also earning a salary. However, those positions weren’t full-time. I started streaming in 2015, and from 2019 onward, I really focused on playing professionally. My biggest hope is that women’s Counter-Strike will grow to the point where we can eventually have mixed-gender teams!
