J.K. Rowling’s Visit to ‘Harry Potter’ TV Series Like “Royalty” Being on Set

Although HBO had previously minimized J.K. Rowling’s role in the new TV series, the author has been visiting the set during filming. According to Deadline, Rowling recently stopped by locations at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and elsewhere in the U.K., with one source describing the visit as akin to a royal appearance.

HBO didn’t officially comment on J.K. Rowling’s visit to the set, but a source revealed that key members of the production team made time to greet her. Rowling is heavily involved in the series as an executive producer, and she’s also contributed to casting and offered guidance on the writing. Rowling herself stated in June that she’s been working closely with the series’ writers.

When the series was announced, many people who disagreed with J.K. Rowling’s public statements about transgender rights immediately said they would boycott the new HBO show, putting HBO in a difficult position. In November, HBO’s CEO, Casey Bloys, directly addressed how the ongoing controversy surrounding Rowling had affected the show, stating:

We’ve worked with J.K. Rowling for years – we’ve been in business for 25 years and already produce the HBO show ‘C.B. Strike’ with the BBC. It’s important to remember that her views are her own, and they don’t change the ‘Harry Potter’ stories. If you disagree with her, you can share your thoughts on Twitter.

The ‘Harry Potter’ Franchise is Still Massively Popular

Despite the controversies surrounding J.K. Rowling, including online debates and boycott threats, the Harry Potter franchise remains incredibly popular. The books continue to sell exceptionally well in various editions, the films are readily available on streaming services, and a brand-new audiobook series with a full cast has just been launched.

As a huge movie buff – and a Harry Potter fan, of course – I was blown away by this new audiobook version! The original, narrated by Stephen Fry, is a classic, but this one is something else. They’ve packed it with amazing actors – Hugh Laurie, Keira Knightley, the list goes on – and it really breathes new life into the stories. It’s a fantastic way for even more people to experience the magic of Harry Potter. Now, I know some fans are struggling with the author’s personal life and trying to separate that from the books, and that’s totally understandable. But for a lot of us, anything and everything related to the wizarding world is still pure gold, and we’ll happily dive right in!

HBO’s highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series is set to premiere on HBO Max in 2027, launching a new chapter for the beloved franchise that’s expected to span ten years. While a fresh cast will bring the story to life – including John Lithgow, Nick Frost, Paapa Essiedu, Janet McTeer, and Paul Whitehouse – Warwick Davis and Bill Nighy are returning to reprise their roles from the films. Newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton will star as Harry, Ron, and Hermione, respectively. The series is expected to debut in early 2027, though a specific release date hasn’t been revealed yet.
