Sabrina Carpenter is quickly becoming a major star, joining the ranks of pop singers like Charli XCX and Ariana Grande who have also transitioned into acting. She’s currently touring with her Short n’ Sweet show and has caught the attention of Wicked producer Marc Platt, who is developing a new Alice in Wonderland movie. Platt was impressed with Carpenter’s talent, voice, and understanding of the source material. He’s now collaborating with her on a fresh take on the classic story. While the project is still in its early stages, with a script being developed by Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers), Carpenter is already contributing to the creative process.
If a role doesn’t pan out for Sabrina Carpenter, there’s still a chance she could appear in a Mamma Mia! sequel. Amanda Seyfried is actively trying to get Carpenter cast in Mamma Mia 3 and hopes to expand the on-screen Mamma Mia! family. Seyfried would love to see her character, Sophie, with children, and thinks Carpenter could play a cousin. Carpenter is a big ABBA fan—she and Veronika Slowikowska even dressed as the band’s female members for Halloween—making her a perfect fit. Seyfried also mentioned Sydney Sweeney as another potential addition, saying many young actresses are eager to be involved.
If those plans fall through, there’s a continuing rumor that Sabrina Carpenter might go back to Disney and reprise her role as Rapunzel in a live-action remake of Tangled. The gossip site Deuxmoi has shared this idea, and Carpenter herself hinted at it by dressing up as Rapunzel for Halloween in 2023. Perhaps she’ll return to Disney, reconnecting with her beginnings on Girl Meets World.
