Actor Michael Rosenbaum recently shared his disappointment with how the development of the highly anticipated sequel series is progressing.
While at Comic Con Liverpool with his former Smallville co-star Tom Welling, Michael Rosenbaum discussed the possibility of continuing the series. He explained that he, Welling, and the show’s creators, Al Gough and Miles Miller, are all interested in revisiting Smallville, but they need the right opportunity and a compelling pitch before moving forward.
There’s still a lot to figure out regarding the animated Smallville spin-off. Rosenbaum explained that getting the studio on board is key. “We’re eager to make it happen, and our plan is to include all the original Smallville cast,” he said. “However, we don’t have a timeline yet – it’s still being developed.”
Originally premiering in 2001, Smallville followed the story of a young Clark Kent—played by Tom Welling—as he navigated high school life in Smallville before becoming Superman. The show ran for ten seasons and 217 episodes on The CW (formerly The WB) and featured a talented cast including Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang, Michael Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor, Sam Jones III as Pete Ross, Allison Mack as Chloe Sullivan, Annette O’Toole as Martha Kent, John Schneider as Jonathan Kent, and John Glover as Lionel Luthor.
How Smallville Continued on After the Series Ended
Even though the TV show Smallville finished its ten-season run, the story continued in DC Comics until 2014. Since then, this comic book series is pretty much the only continuation fans have gotten, aside from a few appearances by the show’s stars in other DC TV shows like those in the Arrowverse.
The project is ready to move forward, but it’s currently stalled because we need approval from Warner Brothers and DC. The writers who created the popular show Smallville – Al Gough and Miles Millar – are eager to work on it, despite being busy with Wednesday. The entire cast is on board and willing to voice their characters. We’re just waiting for the green light from the studio to begin.
Smallville is currently available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
