89-year-old Skyrim Grandma switches to another RPG after 9 years

After a nine-year hiatus, popular YouTube personality and grandmother Shirley Curry, famously known as ‘Skyrim Granny’, has started playing another role-playing game from Bethesda for the first time.

Over time, Curry significantly expanded her YouTube channel to a remarkable 1.3 million subscribers, largely due to her engaging videos of playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Though I dipped my toes into other titles like ‘Call of Cthulhu’ from time to time, I’ve found myself consistently drawn back to the realm of Skyrim – even after declaring a gaming hiatus in 2024.

Without The Elder Scrolls VI making an appearance yet, Grandma has moved on to a new game, but she’s already encountered a few problems with it.

Skyrim Grandma has big issues with Oblivion Remastered

On May 31st, Grandma Skyrim posted her inaugural video, where she played Oblivion Remastered and shared a few remarks critiquing the role-playing game.

She explained to her audience, “I’m struggling with figuring out how to present myself on screen and make the camera focus on me.” She added, “I’ve tried pressing every button, but nothing changes in that manner.

She found the movements in the game really unattractive, quite frankly disgusting,” she exclaimed, venting her frustration over the new control scheme. She suggested game studios should maintain the same layout they’ve used in earlier versions.

Even with some reservations, Shirley didn’t hesitate to commend the game’s visuals and showed excitement about delving into the expansive environment.

Switching to a new game such as Oblivion will indeed be quite an adjustment for someone of her advanced age (89 years old), but her audience has been quick to offer assistance in the form of suggestions for tweaking settings and providing helpful tips about gameplay in the comments section.

Furthermore, some enthusiasts can hardly contain their excitement as they’ve been eagerly anticipating her playing Oblivion. As one fan put it, “I’ve been waiting for this more than the game’s own remastered release!

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m eagerly hoping that I can quickly get the hang of the new control scheme, as this fresh adventure should keep me entertained until Elder Scrolls 6 finally drops. Frankly, I’ve been yearning for Bethesda to unveil it before my time runs out.
