As a devoted cinephile, I’m thrilled to delve back into the world of Leverage with the revival series, Leverage: Redemption. This new chapter brilliantly resurrects the original TNT Leverage series, offering a chance to reconnect with characters from that beloved show. In this continuation, the band of criminals-turned-vigilantes are once again united, this time aiming their sights on wealthy wrongdoers and corporations who have exploited the vulnerable. Although four key cast members were central figures in the original series, Leverage: Redemption skillfully preserves continuity by introducing other recognizable faces to the mix.
Drew Powell and Jeri Ryan initially appeared as guests in the initial series and later returned to their roles in the remake, which has resulted in some remarkable episodes. Although much-loved characters like Archie Leach (Richard Chamberlain) and Captain Bonanno (Robert Blanche) may no longer be seen due to their actors’ demise and the improbability of recasting them, there are numerous characters from Leverage that could potentially make a comeback in season 4 of Leverage: Redemption.
8. Agents McSweeten And Taggert
Played By Gerald Downey (In Six Episodes) And Rick Overton (In 3 Episodes) In Leverage
In the debut season of the series “Leverage”, these two FBI agents make their initial appearance. Initially, Agent Taggert works alongside Agent McSweeten up to season 2. However, McSweeten reappears at least once in every subsequent season of the original show. They are portrayed as field agents who consistently struggle to succeed in their investigations until they receive assistance from the “Leverage” team.
Initially, McSweeten’s character seems clumsy and lacking in skill, yet his recurring roles on the show suggest a possibility that he may be aware of Parker, played by Beth Riesgraf, being more than just an FBI agent. Although the agents have been mentioned in Leverage: Redemption, they haven’t made an appearance as of yet.
As a fan, it’s intriguing to ponder about the characters who seem to understand and even support the Leverage teams in their operations. Developing insights into these officers’ ongoing alliance with Parker (Aldis Hodge) and Hardison would be captivating. Are there official records on them? Is the FBI aware of Parker and Hardison under their assumed identities, treating them as legitimate employees? Or perhaps they share confidential information, creating a unique dynamic that could unfold in countless ways.
7. Olivia Livingston
Played By Ayla Kell In Leverage Season 4, Episode 10
In just one episode of Leverage, Olivia Livingston delivers an impactful performance. Her role is that of a teenage chess player in a tournament. While Nate, played by Timothy Hutton, and his team are employed for a scam within this tournament, it’s eventually revealed they are being used as a diversion, allowing recurring character Sterling (Mark Shepphard) to reconnect with Olivia, who is none other than his daughter.
In my opinion, Olivia’s initial introduction enriched Sterling’s character significantly. Previously, Sterling was primarily used as a contrast for Nate without much insight into his personal life. As Olivia is always aware of Nate and his team, they wouldn’t have to conceal their activities from her in the revival. Her reappearance would offer an opportunity for the show to catch up with Sterling too.
It’s doubtful that Sterling will return to the show because he works for Interpol and now Astrid (Alexandra Park), Sophie’s stepdaughter, serves as their connection to the international law enforcement agency. Introducing Olivia could provide a means to possibly explore Sterling’s personal life again.
6. Mr. Conrad
Played By Andy McCone In Leverage Season 4, Episode 11
Season 4 of Leverage features several episodes that subtly hint at potential storylines for future seasons. Characters like Olivia Livingston and the enigmatic Mr. Conrad make brief appearances, with Mr. Conrad being introduced as a CIA operative in his respective episode – an organization rarely encountered by the team during the initial series run.
In the given episode, Mr. Conrad is seen shielding the members of a fraternity from the authorities. This fraternity, however, engages in unlawful research activities, primarily targeting homeless individuals. A tragic incident occurs when one such experiment results in a man’s death. In response to this, the Leverage team decides to investigate the cause, with Hardison adopting a disguise as a college student and Eliot (played by Christian Kane) portraying a homeless military veteran, to be selected for these experimental activities.
It appears as though the original series intended to explore the concept of the CIA monitoring the team at some point, given that Mr. Conrad threatened Nate about getting his attention in the final episode. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled during season 5, so this storyline wasn’t developed further. If _Leverage: Redemption_ could somehow resolve this plotline without involving Nate, it would offer the audience long-awaited resolution regarding the mysterious threat.
5. Molly Connell
Played By Lea Zawada In Season 4, Episode 6 Of Leverage
In the original Leverage series, numerous episodes feature kids being caught up in a scam. The spin-off, Leverage: Redemption, touched on this concept in “The Date Night Job.” It would be intriguing to revisit one of those children and explore how their experiences with the team could have shaped them during their crucial developmental years.
Among the actors portraying children on that show, it’s Molly Connell who stands out, as she continues to act in the industry. In “The Carnival Job,” Molly’s character is the mark’s daughter, but when she gets kidnapped, the team deviates from their original plan and decides to aid in her rescue instead. During this episode, Molly develops a unique connection with Eliot, who feigns employment at a security firm and plays a crucial role in rescuing her.
Molly is remarkably resilient among the child characters in the original series. Although she’s terrified by the events unfolding and deeply mourning the loss of her mother, she listens attentively to Eliot and manages to assist him during his rescue. It wouldn’t be surprising if we discovered that Molly eventually joined Leverage: International as an adult.
4. Amy Palavi
Played By Aarti Mann In Season 5, Episode 8 Of Leverage
Parker doesn’t have a large circle of friends outside her team, but the ones she does develop are often connected to the jobs the team performs. Notably, Amy is one of the rare exceptions among Parker’s friends who isn’t involved in any underhanded dealings. On the contrary, Amy was once in need of rescue herself, when it was supposed to be her role to protect someone else – a situation where Parker stepped in and saved her life.
The Broken Wing” focuses on Parker, who due to a leg injury, can’t join the crew for their usual scam. Instead, she finds herself confined in an apartment above Hardison’s brew pub. In a nod to the classic film “Rear Window“, Parker spends her time monitoring the security feed when she notices a suspicious duo among the customers. As Amy looks after her and supplies meals, Parker remains oblivious to Amy being their intended target until it’s almost too late.
During the shared event, Amy develops a strong connection with Parker. Although it remains unclear if Amy is fully aware of her boss, his girlfriend, and their companions’ activities beyond the brewery, she appears completely comfortable socializing with them post-incident where she narrowly escaped kidnapping. Given that Amy now recognizes Parker as a potential ally in distress, it’s possible we might see her reappear again in future situations.
3. Colin Mason AKA Chaos
Played By Wil Wheaton In 3 Leverage Episodes
Colin Mason deviates somewhat from the roles Wil Wheaton typically plays. In this series, however, he assumes the role of an antagonist, even a chaotic one, as evidenced by his screen name “Chaos” within the show.
In most of his appearances, Hardison frequently encounters turmoil that serves as an adversary for him. Their relationship is marked by constant competition to access the same security systems. Interestingly, they’ve collaborated once. This chaos brings out an unfamiliar side of Hardison, revealing a level of apprehension and frustration not usually seen. Despite his usual relaxed and self-assured demeanor, this chaos tests him, makes him question himself, and occasionally enrages him.
Even though Aldis Hodge’s busy schedule keeps Hardison from appearing frequently in “Leverage: Redemption,” it would be equally intriguing to watch how Chaos interacts with Breanna instead. Since the hacking techniques in the show have evolved since the original episodes, exploring how Chaos has adapted his methods, whether he’s still operating as a criminal, and if Leverage International has been monitoring him could make for an engaging storyline.
2. Maggie Collins
Played By Kari Matchett In 4 Leverage Episodes
Maggie Collins is previously married to Nate Ford. She features in several episodes, often due to her involvement in the schemes orchestrated by the Leverage crew.
Maggie possesses extensive knowledge about various art periods and styles, which often leads her unintentionally into schemes or cons, often guided by Sophie and Parker. On one occasion, she’s wrongfully accused of theft, but the group manages to exonerate her. In a precautionary measure, Parker prepares a ‘getaway kit’ for Maggie, explaining essential survival skills if they cannot assist her in the future. Over time, Sophie and Parker develop a bond with Maggie beyond their past association with Nate.
Although it seems doubtful Maggie will rejoin the Leverage universe given that she typically appears due to Nate’s involvement, it remains intriguing to catch up with her character. Given her past interactions with the Leverage crew and the assistance they’ve provided, she could prove valuable to future operations. It is plausible that their connection has not been entirely severed, and it would be enjoyable to explore how Maggie maintains ties with the team even in Nate’s absence.
1. Nana
Nana Has Not Yet Appeared In Leverage Or Leverage: Redemption
Nana isn’t someone viewers of Leverage have met personally, but she’s been frequently mentioned in both the original show and its revival. Nana is the nickname given to the woman who raised Hardison and Breanna. Hardison portrays her as a woman with a sailor’s mouth and not shy about tough love, yet deeply caring and protective of the children she takes care of.
As a devoted movie buff, I find myself warmly embraced by the Leverage team upon my return following Hardison’s trailblazing footsteps. Little did I know that the FBI would soon be knocking on Nana’s door, seeking me. It turns out that our resourceful team has been subtly manipulating strings to place children under Nana’s care when their original guardians are discovered to be none other than criminals with a sinister intent – to take these innocent lives. This revelation opens up an exciting possibility: we might just catch glimpses of how some of the other kids in her charge are faring, should Nana make an appearance in the series.
It could also be intriguing to learn about the world that Breanna and Hardison hail from. Their mutual support, healthy competition, and unwavering confidence in expressing their views make for a fascinating dynamic. Exploring how Nana molded them into such self-assured individuals amidst an uncertain world would undoubtedly be engaging.
It’s reasonable to be optimistic about the fourth season of Leverage: Redemption, as Executive Producer Dean Devlin has previously expressed his intention to include the character Nana in the show and mentioned this would happen if the series is renewed for another season.
