As a lifelong gamer who has spent countless hours on the virtual hardwood with the NBA 2K series, I can confidently say that this year’s ratings for the Philadelphia 76ers are a slap in the face to reality and good game design.
I can hardly contain my excitement as NBA 2K25 is almost here! This means it’s time for passionate discussions among fans and gamers about each player’s rating. These ratings hold significant weight for players, and we, the dedicated fans, are eager to ensure that our beloved Philadelphia 76ers’ in-game abilities accurately reflect their real-life prowess on the court. We’re invested in making sure that every move they make in this game mirrors their incredible skills!
How about we examine the Philadelphia 76ers’ team lineup and consider any necessary rating changes for this year’s version of the well-known video game franchise?
Tyrese Maxey at 89 overall
89 is quite unjust to Tyrese Maxey. As an up-and-coming talent for the 76ers, he deserves a rating of at least 90s. A 90 would be borderline acceptable, but it should ideally be 92 or 93 to truly reflect his worth. In essence, his real grade should be higher.
In simpler terms, Maxey’s athletic prowess places him among the best of the 90s, with his shooting skills nearing the lower end of the 90s percentage scale. Known for his lethal long-range shots, Maxey also possesses a variety of moves to create space when dribbling. The ability to generate space and take clean shots is one of basketball’s most crucial skills, making a player a constant threat to defenses and helping maintain a smooth offensive flow.
Maxey possesses an exceptional layup repertoire among all NBA players. While he may not yet be prepared to vie with Kyrie Irving for the title of league’s top rim finisher, and his vertical leap doesn’t match that of peak Derrick Rose or Russell Westbrook, his initial stride and overall speed could rival any player since Rose was at his Chicago Bulls zenith.
As a gamer on the court, I glide past defenders like a smooth-sailing ship through calm waters, effortlessly. My arsenal of tricks leaves them off-balance and guessing. Whether it’s with my right or left hand, I’m equally deadly – even when I score using my off-foot. Height isn’t my strong suit in leaping, but give me some hang time, and I’ll twist and turn to take shots from unexpected angles, making it tough for defenders to swat away my attempts.
Paul George at 89 overall
Similar to Maxey, Paul George possesses a distinct collection of abilities that significantly boost his worth to the 76ers beyond what these rankings suggest. Known for his elite defensive prowess, George can effectively shut down even the top league scorers. Additionally, he’s an independent scoring threat who can generate points when defenses tighten and the team’s offensive flow stagnates. The 76ers coveted George for his exceptional athleticism and accurate long-range shooting ability, which are just a few of his numerous appealing qualities that led to his signing in free agency.
George is skilled at clearing space on the floor as a backup plan, allowing other team members to make their plays. Yet, he’s perfectly capable of taking charge when needed. He can take control, carry the team, and even demand the ball himself. George uses his agility combined with his collection of ball-handling skills to create distance from defenders and find open areas for a quality shot.
Paul George’s athleticism can be rated between 85 to 95 points, with his inside and outside shooting abilities both earning a rating of around 95 points each. His layup skills are exceptional, deserving a rating in the upper-90s. Despite being 34 years old, George’s overall skill level still warrants a score in the low to mid-90s. For a player as dynamic as Paul George, an overall grade of around 92 or 93 seems fitting.
Joel Embiid dunk at 80 overall
In a different perspective: The developers significantly underestimated this rating. When it comes to performing impressive dunks, there aren’t many basketball players in the league who can match Joel Embiid’s dominance. Although Embiid may not perform jumping dunks from the free throw line or do 360-degree slams like some of the top wing players, he compensates for that in other ways.
With remarkable agility for his stature, Embiid is able to perform powerful slam dunks that echo through the stadium. He’s skilled enough to catch and dunk the ball after bouncing it off the backboard, performing impressive tomahawk dunks. When Embiid builds up speed, he becomes a relentless force, much like an unstoppable freight train, capable of overwhelming defenders who attempt to stop him at the basket.
Ricky Council IV dunk at 75 overall
Just like Embiid, it seems a bit unclear about the thought process behind the rating given by the development team.
A plausible reason behind this score could be that the decision was made priorly not to award Ricky Council IV a satisfactory total rating. Assigning him an appropriate dunk score would have inevitably boosted his overall grade.
As a gamer, I firmly believe that it’s unjust to judge a player based on a preconceived total score. Developers shouldn’t set a target grade and then manipulate each attribute to meet that number. Instead, they should assess each aspect of the player’s performance independently and honestly, allowing the final rating to naturally emerge from these individual evaluations.
The High-Flying Team IV demonstrates exceptional slam-dunk abilities that rival the top players, and their dunk rating should ideally be no less than 85. However, this current assessment appears significantly off the mark.
