Even after seven years, a thrilling action movie on Netflix remains a standout and is well worth watching. Featuring a fantastic cast including Ben Affleck and Pedro Pascal, it’s a perfect choice for anyone who enjoys a good thriller.
If you recently watched the crime thriller The Rip on Netflix, or you’re enjoying a Pedro Pascal marathon, you should definitely check out this overlooked action movie this week. It features a surprisingly great cast.
Triple Frontier Is A Star-Studded Hidden Gem Movie On Netflix
I think Triple Frontier has an absolutely incredible cast for a modern action thriller. Seriously, it’s packed with stars! You’ve got Ben Affleck and Pedro Pascal, but also Oscar Isaac from Dune, Charlie Hunnam who I loved in Sons of Anarchy, Garrett Hedlund from Tulsa King, and Adria Arjona who’s great in Hit Man. It’s a really impressive group of actors all in one movie!
Triple Frontier, directed by J.C. Chandor (known for films like All Is Lost and A Most Violent Year), follows five friends who used to be in the special forces. They team up to take down a powerful drug lord in South America and steal his fortune from his secluded home located on the border of Peru, Brazil, and Colombia.
I really enjoyed Triple Frontier when it came out in 2019 – most critics did, giving it a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. I’ve been hearing rumors about a possible sequel, but Netflix hasn’t said much about it lately, as of January 2026. If you liked Ben Affleck in The Rip, I think you’ll really appreciate his role as the team leader, Tom ‘Redfly’ Davis, in Triple Frontier.
Triple Frontier Is Better Than Its RT Audience Score Suggests
Although critics generally liked Triple Frontier, audiences weren’t as impressed, giving it a 58% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That score might discourage some viewers, but looking back, the film actually deserves a second chance and is better than its initial reception suggests.
As a movie fan, I think it’s important to remember what the film industry looked like when Triple Frontier came out. 2019 was a huge year for blockbusters – movies like Avengers: Endgame and the new Lion King were breaking records! With so many massive hits in theaters, it was always going to be tough for a streaming movie like Triple Frontier to really stand out, even though it was a solid film in its own right.
The film starts with a really interesting idea, blending the excitement of a heist movie with the intensity of a war film. Although it unfolds at a slightly more deliberate pace than the trailer implies, the story keeps you guessing and builds suspense, while also raising thought-provoking questions about right and wrong, and the dangers of wanting more. Plus, it’s a joy to see the five lead actors – all major stars in their own right – work so well together.
If you’re searching for a great, but underappreciated, action movie, Triple Frontier is a fantastic choice to watch on Netflix.
