Marvel Studios is gearing up for the release of _Ironheart_ by refreshing fans’ memories about all the characters who have worn the Iron Man suit in the famous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Despite a decent effort, there were still a few significant absences. The upcoming Disney+ series _Ironheart_ will introduce viewers to a new armor-wearing MCU hero in Dominique Thorne’s character Riri Williams. This gifted MIT student, who decides to create her own Iron Man suit, is the latest addition to the roster of MCU characters wearing high-tech armor.
As part of Marvel Studios’ ongoing promotional efforts for the series “Ironheart”, they unveiled a fresh video showcasing seven characters who have donned Iron Man (or Iron Man-related) suits at some point, among them Tony Stark himself, the Hulk, and even a much-loved teenage character who can climb walls.
The video was shared on Marvel Studios’ social media platforms, accompanied by the tagline, “The importance lies in the person wearing the suit, rather than the suit itself.
In under a minute, this viral promotional material swiftly moves through various characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe who have donned suits at some point, concluding with Dominique Thorne’s character, Riri Williams, from the upcoming series Ironheart.

On Tuesday, June 24, Ironheart officially debuts on Disney+. The series is split into two parts, with three episodes premiering initially on the 24th, followed by another three episodes a week later on Tuesday, June 31.
Under the supervision of Ryan Coogler, director of “Black Panther”, comes a fresh streaming series. This series focuses on Riri Williams, a 20-something character portrayed by Thorne, who assumes the role of the armored superhero Ironheart. However, her life takes an unexpected turn when she encounters the enigmatic Parker Robbins (Anthony Ramos). This meeting propels her into a conflict between technology and magic, testing her abilities as she strives to establish herself as the hero she aspires to be.
The 7 MCU Characters Who Have Worn Iron Man Armor (According to Marvel)
Iron Man
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it was Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Iron Man who first gave the character his metallic skin appearance.
As a captive of the ominous Ten Rings organization, I found myself in a precarious situation, compelled to harness my resourcefulness to construct an armored suit. This armor became my liberation from the malevolent grip of the criminal underworld, transforming me into the indomitable Iron Man.
Peter Parker
Although Tom Holland’s character, Peter Parker, isn’t the actual Iron Man, he has occasionally donned armor resembling that of Iron Man.
Following Tony Stark’s guidance, Peter Parker received an impressive update for his suit in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. He adorned his costume with nanotechnology from Stark Industries, thereby acquiring the renowned Iron Spider appearance.
Obadiah Stane
Following Tony Stark’s decision to distance himself from the Stark Industries brand, Jeff Bridges’ character, Obadiah Stane, creates a suit of armor tailored for himself.
In this towering iron monster, Obadiah earns the title of the Iron Monger, marking him as the first villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, his rule didn’t last long; Tony Stark ended his life by hurling him through a glass skylight onto a Stark reactor, resulting in Obadiah’s demise.
War Machine
In the movie “Iron Man 2”, Tony Stark makes a decision to bestow an Iron Man suit upon one of his friends. The recipient of this armored present turns out to be Don Cheadle’s character Rhodey, who subsequently puts on the iron-armor and transforms into the superhero known as War Machine.
After that, Rhodey donned his armor on several occasions (and even received some improvements throughout the years). In fact, he’s ready to embark on an armored journey in the much-anticipated film, “Armor Wars“.
Bruce Banner
Generally speaking, Bruce Banner, famously portrayed by Mark Ruffalo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is recognized as his gamma-radiated counterpart, the Hulk. However, it’s worth noting that this brilliant mind has also taken control of an Iron Man suit during film appearances.
In the movie “Avengers: Infinity War”, Bruce finds himself in a predicament where, despite being severely beaten by Thanos, the Hulk personality fails to emerge when needed. Instead, he resorts to using Tony Stark’s Hulkbuster armor, which grants him comparable smashing power to his usually formidable green giant alter ego.
Pepper Potts
Interestingly, throughout the years, Gwyneth Paltrow’s character, Pepper Potts, has donned two distinct Iron Man suits. The initial appearance was in Iron Man 3, where Tony Stark equipped her with a suit to ensure her safety when he rescued her.
In Avengers: Endgame, she wore the Rescue armor seen in the comics – a custom-made metallic suit tailored specifically for her.
Riri Williams/Ironheart
In an exciting turn of events, I can’t help but express my anticipation for stepping into the shoes of a new Iron Man-esque character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams, who will don the armor to become the heroic Ironheart. Last year, audiences were treated to a glimpse of Riri’s extraordinary abilities when she teamed up with the Wakandans in their battle against the aquatic force of Talokan, as depicted in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022).
Instead, she’ll embark on a unique comic book journey tailored just for her in her upcoming Disney+ series, where she confronts the formidable Hood and his ominous magical powers.
The 4 MCU Characters Marvel Studios Forgot
Aldrich Killian
It’s common for fans to overlook the fact that Obediah Stane wasn’t the sole villain to wear Iron Man’s armor within the MCU. In the film Iron Man 3, Aldrich Killian, portrayed by Guy Pearce, also assumed control of an Iron Man suit when Tony Stark confined him inside the Mark 42 armor during their final confrontation in that movie.
President Matthew Ellis
As a dedicated film enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement over a memorable cameo in “Iron Man 3.” The charismatic President Matthew Ellis, masterfully portrayed by William Sadler, found himself, albeit briefly, behind the Iron Man suit. In the grips of the malevolent Eric Savin, our beloved president was ensnared within the Iron Patriot armor after Rhodey had been captured.
Ultron
Although Ultron doesn’t physically wear clothing, we should include him on our list. In the movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, Ultron, voiced by James Spader, debuts in one of Tony Stark’s damaged Iron Legion robots, which are modeled after the Iron Man armor.
Morgan Stark
In conclusion, let’s not forget about the charming Morgan Stark. portrayed by Lexi Rabe in Avengers: Endgame. Wearing her mother’s Rescue helmet constructed by none other than Tony Stark (her dad), while she didn’t put on the full Iron Man outfit, it remains to be seen if she won’t embark on superhero adventures similar to her father in the future.
