60-year-old cancer survivor joins college football team and he’s actually playing

A man who overcame cancer at age 60 is now playing college football, making him the oldest player in the country.

Most people eventually realize their dream of playing professional or college sports won’t come true, and they’ll end up being fans instead. It’s a tough truth, but it’s something many of us experience.

But Tom Green, a 60-year-old retired businessman and cancer survivor, hasn’t received the news. He’s actually joining the McDaniel College Green Terror football team and will be playing this season!

According to Fox, a 61-year-old from Maryland, he recently joined McDaniel College’s football team as a walk-on and will play defensive line.

60-year-old is oldest player in college football

Eleven years ago, I was seriously ill, having lost sixty pounds and experiencing severe night sweats. The tumors were attacking my blood, and I truly believed my life was coming to an end, Green shared with WBFF FOX45.

It was an incredible stroke of luck. Most people don’t get an opportunity like that. My doctor at Johns Hopkins was amazed, saying that what happened to me was virtually impossible.

The 60-year-old man shared that his new teammates treat him like one of the guys, which he loves. He’s occasionally been mistaken for a coach, though.

Several of Green’s teammates shared that his dedication to playing football despite his age is inspiring, and they’ve been challenging him during practice sessions.

We’ll have to wait and see how much playing time he gets when the season starts, but a national championship run is probably out of reach for his team.

The Green Terror play in the Centennial Conference, but they struggled last season, finishing with a 1-9 record and losing their final seven games. They’re hoping to improve their performance next season.

If he plays college football next year, he’ll make history as the oldest player ever, at 62 years old.
