As a devoted film enthusiast, I find myself stepping down from my esteemed position as executive producer of “60 Minutes” at CBS News – the third in a long line of respected newsmakers. After much deliberation, I’ve chosen to part ways due to dwindling autonomy in making decisions that best serve “60 Minutes” and our audience.
As my parent company, Paramount Global, navigates legal challenges from President Donald Trump and pursues a merger with Skydance Media, I recognize the need for change and wish them all the best in securing their future. This decision, however, was not an easy one as “60 Minutes” holds a special place in my heart and has been a significant part of my professional journey.
For some time now, it’s been evident that I won’t be able to continue managing things in my usual way. Given my long-standing commitment to this project and its values, I feel it’s best for us all if I step back, allowing the show to progress.
A spokesperson for Paramount Global could not be reached for immediate comment.
The news that Owens is leaving arrives as top figures at Paramount, including the majority stakeholder Shari Redstone, find themselves in a similar position.
