The live-action Netflix series One Piece consistently subverts expectations, especially when introducing characters. The biggest point of discussion among fans has been how quickly some characters appear compared to their introductions in the original manga and anime, significantly altering the show’s timeline.
Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece has already shown it’s willing to change the order of events from Eiichiro Oda’s original story, like with the characters of Sabo and Bartolomeo. This gives the show the freedom to surprise viewers in season 3. As the story moves into the Alabasta arc, many fans believe we might see important characters from later in the manga appear much sooner than anticipated.
Whitebeard
An Early Whitebeard Debut Could Expand Ace’s Story Beyond The Alabasta Arc
Xolo Maridueña, known for his role in Cobra Kai, will appear as Portgas D. Ace in the third season of Netflix’s One Piece live-action series. This opens the door for introducing Whitebeard, one of the most famous pirates in the One Piece universe. Although Whitebeard (Edward Newgate) doesn’t appear until later in the original story, his relationship with Ace makes him a logical character to feature sooner in the Netflix adaptation.
Even before we actually see Whitebeard in One Piece, his influence is felt, especially when learning about Ace’s past. Showing a quick flashback of Ace joining Whitebeard’s crew – perhaps in season 3 – would be a smart way to show their connection and make Ace’s story more impactful. This would also be similar to how the live-action series has already used flashbacks to build stronger relationships between characters.
Even a short appearance by Whitebeard in the third season of the live-action One Piece would be beneficial. It would hint at future storylines, like the major battle at Marineford, and because Netflix seems to be planning for the long haul, introducing such an important character now would make the story feel more connected and build a stronger base for Luffy’s future adventures after the Alabasta arc.
Ivankov
Bringing Ivankov’s Debut Forward Could Tease Crocodile’s Past
Ivankov is a compelling and unpredictable character in One Piece, and his past connection with Crocodile provides a great opportunity to hint at his presence early on. Although Ivankov doesn’t show up until later in the manga’s Impel Down storyline, linking him to Crocodile offers a natural and logical way to introduce him in the third season of the live-action series.
Because Crocodile appeared before the Alabasta storyline, the live-action One Piece series can cleverly suggest his past connection with Ivankov earlier than the anime did. A subtle line of dialogue or a brief, mysterious appearance, similar to Sabo’s cameo in season two, could create excitement and anticipation without giving away too much about Ivankov’s importance.
This fits seamlessly with the way the adaptation has been telling the story and changing the original timeline. Even a small role for Ivankov would deepen Crocodile’s character and hint at important plot twists coming in future seasons.
Bellamy
A Season 3 Bellamy Appearance Would Be A Perfect Setup For Future Arcs
Bellamy isn’t introduced until later in the original One Piece story, during the Jaya arc. However, his character represents important themes that could make him a good addition to the live-action series earlier on. He’s a pirate who shows the dangers of being overly cynical and driven only by ambition, which makes him a strong foil to Luffy’s more optimistic and principled nature.
As a huge One Piece fan, I think Netflix would be smart to introduce Bellamy near the end of season 3. Even a quick scene showing off his personality and how he sees the world would immediately make him feel like a real threat, and it would build anticipation for when we finally get to Jaya and Skypiea in season 4. Plus, it would really drive home the point that the Grand Line is full of pirates who are way different from Luffy and his crew – not everyone’s looking for fun and adventure!
Netflix has shown it’s willing to invest in building characters over time, as seen in its live-action adaptation of One Piece. Introducing Bellamy early on would fit this approach, making future storylines more impactful and enriching the show’s overall world beyond the current events in Alabasta.
Donquixote Doflamingo
Doflamingo Could Be Introduced As A Shadowy Power Broker To Begin The Marineford Setup Early
Donquixote Doflamingo is a hugely popular villain in the anime and manga series One Piece, and fans are already excited about seeing him in the upcoming live-action adaptation. While he’s introduced during the Jaya arc of the manga, his impact on Luffy’s story is much larger, especially during the major events of the Marineford arc.
I’m really hoping we get to see Doflamingo in Season 3 of the live-action One Piece! I think introducing him, even briefly, as the shadowy figure Joker would be brilliant. It would let them hint at his huge network of connections and subtly link him to Crocodile’s schemes, making the criminal underworld feel so much bigger and more dangerous. It’d be a fantastic way to build anticipation for his full introduction later on.
As a huge fan, I’m already seeing how bringing Ace into the story in season 3 is setting things up for the massive Marineford arc. I really think including Doflamingo, even just for a quick appearance, would be brilliant. It would really highlight where the story is going and get everyone even more hyped, especially with all the buzz about who might play him – Antony Starr would be amazing!
Law
Trafalgar Law Could Be Teased As A Rising Star Of The Grand Line
Fans are really looking forward to seeing Trafalgar Law in the live-action version of One Piece. Even though he doesn’t appear until later in the original manga – first showing up during the Sabaody Archipelago arc – it’s possible we’ll see a hint of him early on. He’s already established as a pirate sailing the Grand Line, and Luffy and the Straw Hats aren’t even at that point yet in the story, so a brief introduction isn’t out of the question.
Instead of a formal introduction, the third season of One Piece could subtly introduce the character of Law through things like wanted posters or news updates – maybe even a quick scene after the credits. This would also help build a richer world for the live-action series, showing that Luffy’s adventures aren’t happening in isolation without interrupting the main story.
Introducing Law early in the live-action series would accomplish two important things. First, it would establish other powerful pirate groups beyond Luffy’s crew, hinting at the wider world. Second, for viewers new to the original manga, it would demonstrate just how vast and influential the Grand Line is, showing that many powerful players are already at work shaping events, even before interacting with the Straw Hats.
Jinbei
This Future Straw Hat Pirate Could Be Introduced At The Warlords Meeting
Because Jinbei becomes a crucial character in Luffy’s journey in the One Piece manga, it makes sense for him to appear early in the live-action series. Even though he isn’t officially introduced for a while, his position as one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea suggests he’d naturally be involved in important meetings with the World Government.
If the upcoming season of One Piece follows the story of the manga and anime, it might end with a gathering of the Warlords, similar to what happened after the Alabasta arc. This would be a natural way to introduce Jinbei into the show without diving deeply into his backstory right away.
Introducing Jinbei now would be a great move for the show. The Netflix adaptation of One Piece has successfully used similar brief appearances to tease important characters and build excitement for what’s to come. A quick cameo for Jinbei in season 3 would not only enrich the show’s world by showing more of the Warlords, but also subtly prepare audiences for a key member of Luffy’s crew later on.
