A large group of teens invaded a carnival in New Jersey following arrangements made on TikTok. They subsequently shifted their actions to a shopping mall nearby.
On the evening of May 24th, I found myself right smack in the middle of a whirlwind at the Woodbridge Center Carnival. Around 9 PM, it seemed like every teen for miles decided to show up, and boy, did they ever! It was pure pandemonium.
Although it was necessary for those under 18 to be accompanied by an adult (either a parent or guardian) at the carnival, there were still numerous young people who arrived without supervision.
Due to the chaos at the gathering, it was necessary to call the Woodbridge police to restore order. In fact, additional assistance was required, as reported by RLS Media.
According to local sources, it appears the takeover was coordinated using social media, mainly through TikTok. Attendees shared videos of their participation on the platform, which were posted the following day, depicting large groups of people involved in the event.
Following their control of the carnival, the teenagers transferred their actions to the Woodbridge Center Mall nearby. It’s said that the police were able to station themselves at the mall before the group caused destruction, but this didn’t deter the youth from acting recklessly. As a result, stores either closed or even took steps to safeguard shoppers from the chaos.
At the time of publication, it is unclear if any arrests took place.
Teen takeovers go viral online as frustration mounts
Over the past week, I’ve found myself recalling an eerily familiar event that unfolded at the local mall only days ago. It was just last weekend when a sizable horde of teens, much like the crowd I witnessed then, created quite a commotion. The chaos resulted in seven arrests and left one brave police officer with a fractured ankle.
Edison Mayor Sam Joshi is insisting on enhanced security for local businesses in the region, stating emphatically that such unacceptable conduct will not be tolerated within our community. He emphasizes that this should not be allowed and swift action must be taken to ensure these expectations are met promptly.
The takeover was orchestrated digitally, and the individual who first shared the ‘invitation’ is now facing charges. According to Joshi, the poster’s intention was initially to conduct interviews with other teenagers aspiring to be ‘influencers’. However, he alleges that the ultimate objective was to create a disruptive situation.
The mayor stated that it’s crucial for parents to keep an eye on their children, ensuring they don’t engage in disruptive behavior in other communities,” he added, emphasizing the importance of parental accountability.
Users on social media platforms are venting their annoyance, as one individual put it on a TikTok post depicting disarray: “This isn’t amusing at all; it’s just childish. Speaking from my teenage perspective, I despise immaturity among peers – grow up already.
“How is this even fun? Like, how is it fun to terrorize people?” another asked.
Over the same weekend as a riot in Los Angeles, this recent takeover transpired, resulting in approximately 100 individuals igniting fireworks on the streets and damaging police vehicles seemingly without provocation.
