3 Shocking Theories About the Mysterious Strangers in Yellowjackets Season 3!

Yellowjackets Season 3 appears poised to connect past and current storylines, hinting at this in Episode 6 through the introduction of two fresh characters. Caution: Potential spoilers follow!

In the earlier part of today’s episode, I found myself experiencing a hallucination at the gas cave – Coach Scott became my lifeline for rescue. The Yellowjackets chose to keep him alive despite his conviction of attempted murder. Yet, after we incapacitated him, he seemed to have given up on life and wished for death.

He attempts self-starvation, but the women relentlessly feed him against his will. In the end, Nat’s compassion prevails and she euthanizes him. This act of rebellion makes her the leader, Shauna, who then mandates that they pay tribute to Coach Scott… by consuming him. (In this version, “mercy kills” is replaced with “euthanizes,” which is a more straightforward and less dramatic term, and “honor” is clarified as “pay tribute.”)

At their celebration, they suddenly begin shouting into the wilderness, drawing near what appears to be two nature enthusiasts or hikers. They cautiously advance towards the girls, visibly shaken, until they catch sight of Ben’s head on a serving platter. The ensuing events remain unknown, but here are three plausible scenarios.

Coach Scott really is the bridge (but not in the way you think)

It’s possible that Coach Scott’s demise was the catalyst for the cannibalistic rituals among the Yellowjackets, which eventually led to strangers discovering their plight. The girls may fear that the hikers know too much about their actions, leading them to kill the hikers in order to maintain their secret.

This spine-tingling action adds another link to the sequence of occurrences, as anyone venturing out to locate the lost hikers unexpectedly stumbles upon the Yellowjackets. Yet, it raises an intriguing query that remains unanswered.

This eerie incident advances the series of events, as any search party for the disappeared trekkers encounters the Yellowjackets instead. However, there’s still one mystery left unsolved.

In the current storyline, an individual has been following Shauna and appears to be aware of events that transpired in the wilderness. Despite leaving a tape for her, Callie took it but later gave it to her mother in Season 3 Episode 6, after discovering that Lottie might have been killed.

Shauna discovers that the item is a Digital Audio Tape (DAT), a device for recording and playing back sound developed by Sony in 1987. These tapes are not common nowadays, but grown-up Van manages to locate an antique DAT player.

When they play it back, they find themselves hearing a recording of their own cries and cheers from the evening when Coach Scott was consumed. Given this context, it seems logical to assume that the hikers were the ones who captured these sounds on tape.

It seems they are birdwatchers. This fact doesn’t fully register with Van until Tai clarifies about the people using those particular tapes.

In her opinion, peculiar garage bands and passionate ornithologists, among others, she mentions. Suddenly, it becomes clear to her. “Hurry up and get dressed immediately,” she instructs Tai, clearly understanding that the mysterious recording they heard was likely made by these unknown individuals.

If the individuals are deceased, why is the tape still being distributed? One possibility could be that one of the girls secretly took it and held onto it as a form of security or leverage.

It’s generally believed among theories that the individual following Shauna could be an adult Melissa – perhaps she obtained the tape and miraculously survived? In her own words, “Only a handful of people even know about this, and they either are us or no longer alive.” It could very well be one of them.

The birdwatchers make a narrow escape

A different perspective suggests that instead of killing the birdwatchers, the Yellowjackets might have captured them in a manner similar to how they dealt with Coach Scott.

At this moment, the tension among us is palpable, and we’re not in a rush to take any hasty actions. As the chill of winter sets in, our priority might shift towards buying some breathing space, and perhaps, brainstorming a solution that could lead us back home.

In contrast to Ben, they can actually sprint. If the birdwatchers were somehow to displace the girls and flee, what then?

If these individuals seem disoriented and unable to find their way, they could potentially perish due to hunger or an encounter with dangerous wildlife. The recording device would then be abandoned. Subsequently, during one of their hunts, Melissa or another solitary Yellowjacket might stumble upon it, choosing to keep the tape for personal reasons such as fear or as a keepsake.

Instead, the birdwatchers might opt for leaving the area and returning to urban surroundings. They contact the relevant authorities, yet when a formal rescue team arrives, they discover that the girls have concealed all their criminal activities.

It seems they are unaware that the birdwatchers are still holding onto a crucial evidence tape. Of course, this brings up another point: why not simply give the recording to the authorities?

Instead of accusing them directly, perhaps the Yellowjackets are implying guilt towards them. Alternatively, it’s possible that their fear stems from witnessing the activities of the gang in the woods.

They join the Yellowjackets, but it’s a fatal mistake

In the third and concluding theory, rather than instantly attacking the birdwatchers, the Yellowjackets perceive a potential chance. Perhaps these bird enthusiasts are also lost, and thus, they strike a survival agreement to endure collectively.

1) They claim Coach Scott’s death was an accident, and the novices adapt their lifestyle to resemble the team. The sequence of events seems logical. We understand it’s currently summer, yet in Season 3 Episode 6, Tai mentions that the nights are becoming chillier.

They weren’t saved until approximately December 1997, which means there are still some chilly months left in the year. Additionally, the scene featuring the Pit Girl hasn’t been shown yet, and we haven’t witnessed them fully in hunter mode, adorned with their masks alongside the Antler Queen, as of now.

In the coming months, these incidents are expected to occur. Unfortunately, it might be the birdwatchers who find themselves in a precarious position and potentially become the victims.

Regarding the DAT tape, similar to what was mentioned earlier, one of the young women conceals it. Alternatively, it could be possible that they are unaware of its existence; however, an authority discovers it during a search at the crash site and chooses to retain it privately.
