Many actresses in Hollywood have continued working during their pregnancies, and Marvel Studios is no exception. Especially with its recent Multiverse Saga, Marvel has focused on showcasing strong female characters. Several of these actresses have impressively brought iconic comic book roles to life while also navigating the challenges of pregnancy.
As a huge Marvel fan, I find it amazing that three actresses have actually filmed their superhero scenes while pregnant this century! It’s so cool to see Marvel adding more and more strong female characters, and it’s really special knowing that, alongside all the action and excitement, some of these incredible women were experiencing such a huge personal milestone. It must have made filming extra challenging, but also incredibly rewarding.
3 Actresses Who Filmed Marvel Superhero Roles While Pregnant
Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Age of Ultron)

For eleven years, Scarlett Johansson played Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, showcasing over six different styles throughout her time in the role. She was also the first female superhero in the MCU, and notably, she filmed one of the movies while pregnant with her first child, setting a new precedent for the franchise.

According to ABC News, Scarlett Johansson was pregnant with her daughter, Rose, throughout almost all of the filming for her role as Black Widow in the 2015 movie Avengers: Age of Ultron. This was her fourth of nine appearances with Marvel Studios. She gave birth in August 2014, right after filming wrapped, and about nine months before the film came out on May 1, 2015.
Halle Berry

Halle Berry, a popular choice among fans to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, first became part of the Marvel universe by playing the character Storm in the X-Men movies produced by Fox. She originally portrayed the powerful mutant in the first three X-Men films and returned to the role once more in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
According to US Magazine and Berry herself, her part in the movie had to be reduced because she unexpectedly became pregnant while filming. She was among the first to arrive on set each day and the first to finish shooting her scenes, completing her work early in the production schedule. Her son, Maceo-Robert Martinez, was born on October 5, 2013, and the film, X-Men: Days of Future Past, was released in theaters on May 23, 2014.
Vanessa Kirby

Vanessa Kirby joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Sue Storm, also known as the Invisible Woman, in the new film The Fantastic Four: First Steps. In a first for the Fantastic Four series, her character is pregnant during the movie and even gives birth to Franklin Richards – a very powerful child – while battling Galactus, who threatens to destroy their world.
In a surprising turn of events, actress Kirby is expecting a baby while filming her second role as Sue Storm in the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday, scheduled for release on December 18, 2026.
In an interview with The Playlist, Evangeline Lilly praised the directors of Doomsday, Joe and Anthony Russo, describing them as “amazing.” She also shared how exciting it was to film an Avengers movie while pregnant. Currently, the extent of her role in Doomsday and her shooting schedule remain unknown, along with the expected date of her first child’s arrival.
