2K has released a new Borderlands 4 gameplay trailer and screenshots following the State of Play showcase

2K Games and Gearbox Software unveiled an extended sneak peek into the gameplay for Borderlands 4 during today’s State of Play broadcast.

The exhibition displayed the planet Kairos, emphasizing its cooperative play experience with tailored loot for each participant, adaptive level adjustments, and customized difficulty levels. Additionally, the event provided exclusive insights into the production process before the official release of Borderlands 4 in September.

The much-anticipated launch of Borderlands 4 is set for September 12 on platforms such as PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (both Steam and the Epic Games Store). This game will also be available later this year on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Here’s where you can check out the in-depth look at Borderlands 4 from State of Play, along with a fresh gameplay video, snapshots, and specifics: [Link]

During a special Sony PlayStation event, developers at 2K and Gearbox Software offered a detailed sneak peek of the intense gameplay we can expect from the upcoming title Borderlands 4, the next addition to the renowned loot-shooter series. Set to release on September 12, 2025, this exciting new installment will be available for PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, and personal computers via Steam and Epic Games Store. Additionally, Borderlands 4 will hit the Nintendo Switch 2 at a later date in 2025.

In the recently unveiled gameplay clips, players got their first glimpse at two out of four new characters destined for Borderlands 4. One is Vex, a potent Siren who can boost herself or summon lethal specters to join her in combat. The other is Rafa, an Exo-Soldier previously serving as a Tediore soldier, now donning an experimental exosuit that generates an array of weaponry through digistructing technology. Each character brings a distinct gameplay experience, enhanced by the most sophisticated skill tree system seen in any Borderlands title so far.

On the expansive, interconnected world of Kairos, adventurers will clash against the ruthless Timekeeper. For millennia, he has concealed this planet, subjugating its people through mechanical implants called Bolts and an army of artificial warriors named The Order. Travelers will traverse the planet, meeting new and familiar faces, beasts, and denizens to fight, as well as factions scattered across four distinct territories who yearn for liberation from the Timekeeper’s oppression. Along the journey, companions will join the players in their struggle, while adversaries will learn the power of the Vault Hunters’ arsenal of weapons and abilities.

In the exhilarating footage unveiled during PlayStation’s State of Play event, I found myself right alongside Vex and Rafa as they tore through a covert facility hidden within Terminus Range, a frosty, mountainous expanse. This extended gameplay snippet served as a thrilling demonstration of the enhanced gear system in Borderlands 4, igniting an uncontainable loot frenzy like no other, featuring:

  • Deadly weapons from across eight new and returning manufacturers, each boasting their own devastating strengths;
  • Licensed Parts system that combines the behaviors and abilities from multiple manufacturers into a single weapon;
  • Enhancements gear slot to augment weapons based on their manufacturer, rewarding extra firepower with an optimized gear loadout;
  • Ordnance, a shared slot for Grenades and Heavy Weapons like rocket launchers, recharges on a cooldown to keep you locked and loaded during especially tough encounters;
  • Rep Kit gear adds utility by letting players heal themselves or activate temporary buffs to help turn the tide of an intense battle.

Borderlands 4 simplifies joining co-op multiplayer sessions among friends by introducing an online party system that allows players to team up and maintain their group across various game modes. The game is built with cooperative play in mind, featuring personalized loot, adaptive leveling, and individual challenge settings to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience throughout the entire campaign.

Don’t miss out on the complete PlayStation State of Play! I’m eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of exclusive, never-revealed gameplay footage, plus some fascinating behind-the-scenes peeks into the creative process from our dedicated developers. It’s going to be exciting!
