2GAME qualify for VCT Americas as M80 fail Ascension two years in a row

As a devoted follower of the Valorant scene, I’ve witnessed the rollercoaster ride that is M80’s journey. They were so close to qualifying for VCT, only to be thwarted by The Guard in 2023 and 2GAME Esports in 2024. It’s like they’re chasing a ghost, or perhaps a Valorant drone that always seems just out of reach!

2023 saw M80 narrowly missing out on qualifying for the VCT, as they lost in the Grand Finals to The Guard, who have since disbanded. In 2024, after an impressive reverse sweep in the semifinals and a series of nail-biting rounds in the final, M80 came up just short against 2GAME Esports during their last challenge.

Despite the North American team’s secretive approach, their inability to outperform 2G on defense proved fatal. In Maps 4 and 5, 2G successfully neutralized M80 twice during attacks, a remarkable feat considering 2G barely made it past qualifiers to begin with.

Meanwhile, M80 were strongly expected to emerge victorious. However, they failed to do so in 2023 and again in 2024. This shortcoming might have been due to the fact that the last two maps of the series were not their strongest, as they hadn’t played these maps extensively in competitive matches. This deficiency in familiarity could have significantly impacted their defensive strategy for both rounds.

2GAME’s player base primarily consists of individuals who haven’t played at a professional level comparable to the major leagues, while M80’s squad is filled with players who are nearly ready for recruitment by top-tier teams, if not already on their radar. In essence, this implies that on paper, M80 appears to have a more skilled team compared to 2GAME.

With their victory in the 2G’s Grand Finals, they have earned a spot in the VCT Americas League. This presents them an opportunity to showcase their skills against some of the top-tier competitors from the Americas region, potentially qualifying for international competitions.

2GAME Esports has experienced remarkable growth in just under a year since they started playing Valorant, indicating a swift and impressive development in their team.

In the region, it will be quite challenging to find a successor as impressive as TenZ, Sacy, and possibly saadhak, who have all announced their retirements, with the latter potentially moving to Europe, leaving significant footsteps to follow in the search for the next Valorant prodigy.

Considering how strong 2GAME MVP zap’s performance was in the Valorant Ascension final, he’s the one you should have your eyes on going into 2025.
