24-Year-Old Star Wars Game Coming To Modern Consoles

As a seasoned gamer with memories of countless hours spent battling Sith Lords and saving galaxies far, far away, the news of Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles resurfacing is like a sweet Force-infused breeze to my gaming soul. The nostalgia is strong in this one!

Aspyr, known for resurrecting classic Star Wars video games, has announced that it will soon release another title – Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles. The upcoming game promises a glimpse into its retro-inspired gaming experience through an initial trailer showcasing the game’s arcade-style combat.

The game loosely reenacts the storyline presented in Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. Characters such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn experienced this tale firsthand, engaging in battles against the Trade Federation’s lethal droid army to prevent Naboo from being overtaken. A significant distinction between the game and the movie is that players can control characters other than just Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon.

Mace Windu, Plo Koon, and Adi Gallia are joining the roster, along with additional characters like Queen Padme Amidala, Captain Panaka, Ki-Adi Mundi, a battle droid, and Darth Maul (who can be unlocked). An update to the game will also allow Jedi Masters such as Mace Windu to display their lightsabers in colors that match their on-screen appearances or stick with the original lightsaber hues from the game.

The promotional video for the game showcases its Big Head Mode and various other tricks you can employ. Multiplayer action is available, either cooperatively or competitively in the game’s Battle mode.

Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles will be released for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on January 23, 2025. If Aspyr’s past Star Wars games are any indication, a physical version of the game might also be available through Limited Run Games.
