During this month, the summer movie season continues in cinemas with releases such as “Despicable Me 4” and “Deadpool and Wolverine.” meanwhile, major blockbusters and critically-acclaimed indie films from earlier in 2024 are preparing to premiere on streaming platforms.

Warner Bros. is adding “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” to Max following its successful theatrical release, which earned over $570 million globally and set a new record as the studio’s highest-grossing MonsterVerse film. Alongside “Dune: Part Two,” “Wonka,” and “Barbie,” it becomes the latest major Warner Bros. production available on the streaming platform.

As a film enthusiast with a deep appreciation for indie cinema, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about upcoming additions to Max’s library. The arrival of “Loves Lies Bleeding,” a captivating queer crime thriller directed by the talented Rose Glass and featuring an outstanding performance from Kristen Stewart, is sure to draw the attention of many filmgoers. This movie generated impressive earnings of $8 million at the domestic box office during its spring release, following a buzzworthy world premiere at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival in January.

Perhaps the biggest new streaming offering of July is Netflix’s “Beverly Hills Cop: Alex F,” the long-awaited fourth installment in Eddie Murphy’s comedy franchise. Murphy had a streaming hit for Amazon Prime Video by reviving “Coming to America” for a sequel in 2021. Can he do the same with “Beverly Hills Cop” at Netflix? Yet beneath the fear and excitement lies a deeply moving love story.
