1923 Season 2 Shocker: Time Jump Changes Yellowstone Forever!

By now, we’ve progressed deep into Season 2 of 1923, and a minor aspect in Episode 3 has hinted that our scope is wider than initially anticipated.

1923 is set against an extraordinary epoch in history, characterized by rapid technological progress. Innovations such as automobiles and refrigerators were becoming increasingly common. Yet, despite these advancements, the Duttons remain faithful to their horses. However, as the nation edges towards the Great Depression, a sense of unrest fills the atmosphere.

1883 wasn’t the initial Yellowstone prequel, and another one set in 1944 is yet to come, but this latest installment has taken an unanticipated turn by incorporating a brief time progression.

In the span of an instant that could easily be overlooked, confirmation was given out – and this could potentially revolutionize the way future spin-offs are produced.

1923 just left its own year in the Yellowstone universe

It’s quite possible that even a casual observer would notice that this Dutton family can’t possibly be living in the year 1923, given their current circumstances.

So far in Season 2, there are several hints that have been dropped. The most prominent one is the background, which has been set in a wintry landscape with heavy snowfall and storms, suggesting we’re deep into the winter season.

In the following scene, Jacob Dutton discloses that they’ve made an early tax payment to Donald Whitfield for the first year. It’s understandable that this wasn’t a simple task, and it probably took them quite some time to gather the necessary funds, possibly spanning over several months.

As a gamer, I guess it means we’ve got another year left on the clock, which implies a significant chunk of that time has already slipped away while we’ve been giving our best in this endeavor.

In Season 2, Episode 3, the following significant confirmation is revealed. This intense episode, where Alex undergoes inspections at Ellis Island prior to entering New York, contains a subtle detail you might have overlooked: her identification tag. The date on the tag makes it clear that we’re deep into the year 1924.

So far, only two Yellowstone prequels have been released, and out of these, 1883 primarily unfolds within a single year, with the exception of one flashback to James Dutton’s war experiences. The rest of the story seems to be set over a period of just a few weeks.

This paves the way for potential sequels or standalone series, such as ‘1944’, to delve into expansive timeframes. In truth, an extended Yellowstone saga, encompassing multiple generations, could be our next step. Instead of each era having its own separate show, this approach would focus on a broader epoch.
