Wang’s last-round solutions were timed at 5.45, 3.80, 4.31, 3.94, and 4.43 seconds each, giving him a narrow victory over seven-year-old Xuanyi Geng, who came in second place with an average time of approximately 4.49 seconds, according to the World Cube Association (WCA).

Before the competition, Wang had already broken the world record, averaging a time of 3.91 seconds at the Lishui Open in May 2025. You can watch his emotional response to winning the championship below.

To provide some perspective on how extraordinary those periods were, amateur Rubik’s Cube solvers typically take anywhere from one minute to several minutes to solve a single 3×3 cube. However, it’s important to note that there isn’t a scientific mean, but in general terms, professional solvers are approximately 15 to 30 times faster than the average.

When it comes to the World Cube Association events, keep in mind that they host distinct competitions for Rubik’s Cubes of various sizes – from 2×2 to 5×5 cubes. Naturally, the time needed to solve these isn’t comparable to the commonly known 3×3 cube.

Wang’s victory solidifies his status as the youngest three-time world champion in WCA history and the first to achieve it with an average time below 4.3 seconds. Previously, the record was held by Max Park at 5.09 seconds, which he set in 2023.
