11 bit studios is working on a new Frostpunk game, set to drop in 2027. They’ve also got a “slightly bigger” project lined up for a 2029 release

11 bit studios, known for creating games like This War of Mine and Frostpunk series, aren’t planning on taking a break any time soon. Their upcoming title, The Alters, is almost here, and they recently unveiled a new gameplay trailer at the Triple-I Interactive event. Despite Frostpunk 2 not meeting player expectations or achieving significant commercial success, they’re already working on another game set within the same universe.

11 bit Studios announces new Frostpunk game for 2027

Based on a report from PAP Biznes dated April 16, 11 bit studios saw a modest profit in 2024, a significant improvement over the previous year. This was achieved despite a substantial decrease in operational profits, largely due to the cancellation of a project (codenamed Project 8+) and reduced sales for The Thaumaturge and Creatures of Ava, which failed to meet expectations. These factors combined resulted in lower overall earnings.

11-bit Studios’ head, Przemyslaw Marszal, mentioned in a press statement that the gaming industry is experiencing substantial transformations at present. To adapt to these changes, the company intends to broaden its project portfolio by varying both the scope and development duration, as well as seizing lucrative financial prospects in adjacent areas. Additionally, he noted:

Consequently, we’re moving forward with a new venture set within the “Frostpunk” universe. This project is currently in progress and expected to launch in 2027. Simultaneously, we’ve started working on a more expansive title that will be released in 2029.

Despite the fact that their 2024 performance didn’t meet expectations – neither for them nor their investors – the company asserts they are financially secure. They’re optimistic that, considering all the investments being made in new games, their financial status will improve significantly by the end of 2025.

As we eagerly anticipate the release of “The Alters” on June 13, 2025 (let’s hope there are no more hold-ups!), there’s still ample opportunity to recover financially in the current year. If you had a chance to test the demo, you’d agree that the game looks quite promising. Launching a new intellectual property is always a risky venture, but I truly believe this one has the potential to succeed.
